the diary. Jonghyun discovers something unimaginable.
A/N - READ THE DIARY OR IT WON'T MAKE SENSE. I had requests for a sequel so I just wrote things from Jonghyun's POV with the ending extended slightly.
Jonghyun had never been one for expressing his thoughts or emotions in any way shape or form; not to a person, not to a book. He wasn’t like Key who avidly wrote entries in his precious diary. Once or twice Jonghyun had tried to catch a glimpse of the diary entries as Key wrote them but he always failed. The moment Key saw him walk in he’d quickly shut the book, throw the pen across the table, cross his legs and nonchalantly sit at his desk pretending he had just been idly sitting there pondering the mysteries of the universe. He wasn’t fooled by Key’s blatantly obvious act. However he couldn’t understand why he was banned from seeing the secrets held within the book - after all he and Key spent the entire day together so it’s not like Key would have some exciting secret adventure that he could tell no one about. Unless Key had a clone he doubted it was possible.
One day Jonghyun came home before all the other members from a stomach ache that had made dancing unbearable. As he hobbled into their room - ready to collapse on his bed - he spotted something on his periphery. It was a book. It was a book that Key had forgotten to hide in a place unknown to Jonghyun - no matter how hard he had tried to find it before. A feeling grew within him and overtook the motion control centre of his brain; before he knew it he stood before the desk tentatively gazing down at the book. The curiosity was unbearable. Cautiously his hand reached down to rest on top of the plain red cover. Key would murder him. Key would get the whole world to murder him with chainsaws and baseball bats and knifes. Key would make sure they tortured him before they dealt that deciding blow. Jonghyun knew all of this but that need to know feeling still had control over his body - who was he to fight it?
His fingertips inched around the cover and pulled open the book. The first page was blank except for the words ‘My Story.’ Jonghyun gulped - if he turned the next page there was no turning back. His fingers went on leaving his brain behind and turned the next page to show the first entry. ‘Jonghyun & I’ were the first words he saw as they graced most of the page in a large scrawl - underneath in small letters read ‘our story.’ It was almost as if Key felt nervous when writing the second part of the title. Jonghyun’s eyes moved from left to right as he scanned the page taking in the meaning of the words written on it. As he did so his eyes widened. He continued to delve deeper into the story and soon he was on the page which held in its lines the last entry so far; yesterday’s. He stood there dumbfounded. That was not what he had been expecting. He had been expecting a cynical commentary on the day to day happenings of their idol life. He wasn’t expecting that. If he had written a list of what he had expected then it would definitely have been last - wait no, it wouldn’t even have been on the list at all it was so unexpected - so surreal. However that doesn’t mean that he disliked it - it was quite the opposite. Strangely enough the ‘tale’ of him and Key was one he enjoyed, thoroughly. Jonghyun smiled and looked at the clock - the other member’s would soon return. He slipped the now secret-less book into his jumper’s front pocket and exited the dorm with a smile on his face. Key was going to freak when he got home.
-----
Jonghyun returned several hours later and found the dorm in a state of disarray with clothes, cutlery, bedding, pillows, CDs, DVDs and much more strewn all over the floor; Key had obviously been frantic in his search. He saw Minho, Onew and Taemin sitting quietly in the corner obviously avoiding the bedroom where an irritated and angered Key probably resided. He just smiled at them. Stepping over the minefield he managed to make his way to the door of their bedroom - as he reached it he stopped unsure of what to do next. Normally he would just barge in and annoy Key; but this was different. This was entirely and completely different.
He swallowed and knocked lightly on the door feeling awkward as he did so. Key’s reply was weak but audible. Before he opened the door he took the diary out of his pocket hoping it would allow to him to not have to verbally explain anything - he hated doing that. He reached forward and turned the knob exposing himself to Key. As the boy took him in his eyes widened in horror and fear; he had seen what he held in his hand. Jonghyun was yet again possessed by some otherworldly spirit as he walked across the room and took Key’s hand in his. He looked pleadingly into the flustered boys deep eyes and uttered three words. They were three words used too much but not used enough; not for them. Key’s eyes watered and one tear fell before the rest followed suit, relentlessly cascading down the boy’s cheek as he tried to cover them with his shaking hands. Jonghyun wouldn’t let him. He gripped tightly on Key’s wrists bringing them away from his face and looked into a protesting Key’s eyes once again. He leaned forward to close the unneeded distance between them. They didn’t kiss - that was for later - but they wrapped their arms around each other in way not yet experienced between the two of them. It was all they needed - all they had ever needed. Jonghyun couldn’t help but wonder why it had taken so long to get here when it was so perfect. He heard something mumbled into his neck - the words were unclear but the meaning was not - they were the words that he had not too long ago said. Jonghyun just smiled.
