Life is Good

Just back from a quick, almost spontaneous, trip to Florida to see the space shuttle launch. Not quite sure how to even describe the experience. Will try later. For now, I will just say that I had been moving around and around in the same circles, doing the same uninteresting uninspiring, unmotivating (read: depressing) things, for far too long. I came back having been reminded that the world is an awesomely beautiful place and I need to get up and out there and get involved in it again.

One thing I am going to do is start posting stuff on LJ again, instead of just reading about other peoples' lives. Hello, everybody! I'm trying out my voice again . . .

. . . and with that voice I want to say thank you to the wonderful people I shared the trip with, especially my husband, barton_fender .

This poem is from the LJ poem-a-day community, exceptindreams .

"Long Marriage"
Gerald Fleming

You're worried, so you wake her
& you talk into the dark:
Do you think I have cancer, you
say, or Were there worms
in that meat, or Do you think
our son is OK, and it's
wonderful, really--almost
ceremonial as you feel
the vessel of your worry pass
miraculously from you to her--
Gee, the rain sounds so beautiful,
you say--I'm going back to sleep.

Thank you, love, for listening to me in the dark for the last 31 years.
