Your Fiance referred me here from Twitter because I think he's under the illusion that I didn't totally lose my mind planning our wedding. He's funny. I didn't plan a NOLA wedding, we got married in California, but even still, even the week before the wedding my husband and I were going to movies, enjoying free time and generally living pretty normal lives. Having all those things done that you mentioned, really does help more than you'd realize. I think you'll be able to enjoy the Carnival season to the fullest. Now the Catholic counseling I cannot help you with.
I guess my biggest tip would be to roll with everything. I am generally horribly bad at this concept, but on the day of the wedding and for most of the planning, I just sat back and enjoyed it. There was chaos, but it just really didn't matter.
Yes, there was a typo (2 actually) on our marriage license and we're not actually married. And the bridal suite caved in during our ceremony because the a/c broke and then had to be shut off during the reception. And my husband split his pants during the reception. And our cake topper was lost. And then we got robbed on our honeymoon, but aside from that last one, none of it even bothered me in the slightest. People told me that your wedding day is stressful and if you build it up to be this fantastic day you'll be disappointed, and I took that, and I reversed it and I made it my goal for that day, the one of stress and chaos to be the happiest one of my life. And it exceeded every expectation I had.
So don't think you can't enjoy all of it and real life. It's a delicate balance, but it's one you'll strike in no time. Good luck and congratulations.
