I absolutely love this. It's totally original, and the characters are portrayed so well. And it's heartbreakingly realistic too - the poor are often ignored in the LotR fandom, I find, so it's refreshing to see you giving them a voice, and some interactions with those who are better off. An interesting study in pity as well, from both the brothers.
Thank you! But you are too kind. I am so glad you enjoyed my fic and I thank you for starting this wonderful community. I've had tons of fun participating in the exchange. Have a great weekend!
This story is quite striking. As Arahiril points out, the poor are often given short shrift in LOTR fandom. It is too easy for us to forget that the welfare state which cares for the helpless members of society is a modern invention, and in earlier times, those people lived on charity or starved. Morwen is a wonderful OC, desperate but not so desperate as to lose all pride, and I loved Boromir bounding along rather heedlessly until Faramir gives him a little metaphorical shake. It sounds like you have spent some time around stables because the horsey details are well-written and credible. Thank you so much for such an amazing story.
Thanks lady_branwyn! I'm so happy (and relieved) to hear that you enjoyed your fic. Initially, it wasn't my intention to highlight the differences between classes in Middle-Earth, but the theme more or less worked itself in. But it is true, Tolkien does tend to focus on the nobility (not on purpose, I'm sure) although Sam Gamgee was but a lowly gardener himself. And yes, I actually owned a couple horse once upon a time and luckily, I still remembered something of horsemanship while writing this fic.
Again, it was great to hear from you. Have a wonderful week!
This was very nicely done! I really liked the story, it's not often one gets to see the other sides of Minas Tirith in interaction with the brothers. I really liked how you portray the brothers too:)
