First day of College!

Jun 29, 2009 20:51

Well, to sum up today I'd have to do 2 seperate posts since what happened in the morning was far different then what happened during ballet practice this evening =_= But thats just a waste of space so I'll compact it into two cuts in this post.

A picture of some preparations from the night before.Honestly, I didn't get much sleep since I was concerned, nervous, exited and all those whirl wind of emotions that always comes together the day before anything major happens ;

Woohoo, I was soo ecstatic! (and slightly nervous) about entering College. It's like, taking a step towards adulthood (though I'm not so keen on that happening) and all that crap. My mood for all this, is thanks to my older brother who dropped by the day before and told me about what I'll be expecting during the 'first day'. Before that, I used to think that college was an institution that grills students into studying as twice as much then what we did back in high school, and with tougher core subjects (thankfully it's just my imagination working overdrive =_=").

The orientation isn't suppose to start until 9am, but I woke up at 5am anyways so that I could wash my hair and re-check everything that I'm suppose to bring on that day (and still I manage to 'forgot' to bring my receipt, which was very important. Meh, I still survived). It wasn't until 7.30am that my mum drove me to Taylor's College (I was too chicken to drive my mum's car on the highway), where we had breakfast in an Indian restaurant then parted.

Everything my brother said was right. On the first day we were getting that 'know your classmates' session in our classroom. It was fun =D And I am LOVING my classmates who were laid back and not too serious. I was also surprise about the number of international students they had on campus. In our class we had 2 Koreans and probably a few Pakistanis, there was just 1 Malay in my class O_o

So, following the lead from a book I read last night (and my brother's advice), instead of hoping that other people would talk to me, I approached them instead. Well, good tactics paid off and I was warmly received by a few freshmens like myself =) I became close to Namira (who study in humanitarian) and Shida who's in my class. They both lived in the same hostel just close by, so unlike me, transportation to college was easy.

I took this picture from my handphone, after the day was done and I waited for my mum to pick me up;

We're going to have our Biology,Physics,Chemistry and Math classes tomorrow *whooboy* but I guess the lecturers (its so odd not to call them teachers anymore!) will be discussing about our books and other stuff thats a bit off topic (I'm keeping my fingers cross!)

Hahah. On to Ballet! What happened? The worst thing I could ever endure, is when you're struggling on a couple of routines in class when others managed. It all went down like this;

This evening, surprisingly there's only me, Itsuko and Nadia (the terrificly awesome Intermediate student). It was fine for the next half hour, then came down to the pirouettes. We observed the instructor and followed, (this is my first time attempting one) and I screwed it up! BIG TIME. The rest were doing fine, but when it came down to me, it was my legs that kept retreating to the wrong position. After 3 failed attempts , I finally realized where I went wrong. On 5th position, I balanced on the front leg when it was supposed to be at the back!
As if I didn't feel embarrassed enough, right after that we had to do another routine (argh, why do I keep forgetting their french terms!!) when in 5th position I plied and sway my back foot on the right side then releve with the back foot tip toe-ing behind and then in front of the other foot, repeating the same step on my left foot. The instructor showed me I believed more then a couple of times and I still couldn't figure it out! So there I was staring at everybody else and trying my hardest to remember the steps while keeping myself balanced (whenever my right foot sways to one direction I keep wanting to go to that direction. Its like a damn reflex action!) The tempo was fast, so I was lost in the middle of everything.

I got the feeling that the instructor gave up on me on that routine. That was a fail of epic proportions. A dancer is able to pick things up quickly just by observing, I feel really disappointed =(

Wow, somehow these 2 things that happened today were very contrastic, and by the end of the day, isn't it the last thing that counts? =/
Well, I know I can't beat myself up everytime something like this happens. I'll just have to brush off the dust and keep on dancing!

*sigh* don'tcha just love what Monday brings forth? =_= One thing I'm looking forward tomorrow, is too meet and know as many people as I can (kinda defeats the purpose of going to college XD). I just really need to communicate. Taylors has a dance and yoga club that I'm very eager to join =) I'll need to know if I have to take on any extra curricular activities to meet up to the State's university requirements.
