Magika -Chapter 26

Aug 18, 2015 21:59

It was a very dark and lonely night. There was not even a single star shining in the sky. It was just like his heart. Dark and lonely. And not a single person could help him from embracing the dark that has surrounded him since he was a little kid.
Except for a person.
But, the person was long gone. And so was his intention to change.
Shaking his head to clear his mind, he turned to look at his captives who were sound asleep. He still hasn’t had any idea what to do with Aiba. Whenever he was trying to torture the boy to get the information he might need, he couldn’t bring himself to do so. He was very confused. He is a villain, a monster; he should not feel anything.
He couldn’t bring himself to sleep tonight. Whenever he closed his eyes, the image from his past kept on showing up. He still remembered how people from his village called him a monster just because of what he could do. Even his parents considered him as a freak because of that. He never knew he had that ability until that incident occurred. He was not a monster in the beginning, but because of the treatment he got from them, it changed him to be a bitter person. And that is how the monster in him started to control him. They shouldn’t blame him. They were the reason he became a monster.
“You couldn’t sleep?” he heard a voice next to him. It was Aiba. He didn’t notice when the boy woke up. Perhaps the boy was just pretending to be sleeping before this. Aiba might be clumsy, but he knew that Aiba is a determined person. Once he set his mind on something, he will never give up. He will be stupid if he underestimated Aiba’s power.
“What were you thinking about?” asked Aiba again after being ignored. He knew what Aiba wants. Aiba wants information from him. He wants to know the reason why he did what he did. But, there is no way he will let Aiba knows.
“You know, I don’t think you’re a bad person. You might make some mistakes, but so did everyone. Everyone deserved a second chance, including you. I don’t know your reason for killing…”
“Stop talking to me like you know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through and even if you know, you will never understand. Don’t think that just because I didn’t do anything to you now, I will let you go. I am still waiting for the perfect moment to crush your soul. And go to sleep now if you want to stay alive,” said Nakai as he walked away from Aiba who was trying to argue. Just to teach Aiba a lesson, he casts a body-bind curse to the boy to show that he is not being soft towards the boy. However, his head was too preoccupied with his past memory to notice Aiba’s subtle gesture right before he casted the spell.
“There is no turning back. I will continue my mission. I will do whatever it takes to get what I want all these times,” he said to himself determinedly as he locked the door of the bedroom.

“Are you okay?” asked Matsujun concernedly. Nino just nodded his head, trying to push Matsujun away so that he could get away from his room to go to the secret room. But, Matsujun is faster. He gripped Nino’s hand before Nino could get away.
“Let me go. I need to go to the room now!” screamed Nino as he tried to break free from Matsujun’s grip. Ohno, who was by his side, was still in dazed to decide on what they should do now.
“What room? What happened just now? Both of you were here but suddenly it looks like you turned frozen. You wouldn’t react to anything I said or do,”
“It’s not the time to explain. Just follow us if you want to know what happened,” said Ohno as he could finally adapted to their surroundings. Matsujun freed Nino immediately and both Nino and Ohno ran downstairs to get into the secret room. Matsujun and the rest of Nino’s family member followed them until they arrived at the storeroom behind the house. He remembered the portrait which will open the door to the secret room is inside the storeroom but he couldn’t remember the exact location of the portrait.
“What are you looking for?” asked Matsujun as he watched both of them suddenly confused in what to do next.
“We’re looking for a portrait. It is the key to the secret room,” explained Nino but he couldn’t describe how the portrait looked like because he didn’t look properly at the portrait as both Little Nino and Mamoru was standing right in front of the portrait.
“Perhaps you were looking for this portrait?” he heard Kitagawa sensei’s voice from the door. Sho was beside him, holding the book that Nino remembered to be the one which talked about founder Ohno. He doesn’t know how but suddenly Kitagawa sensei was standing in front of the portrait that he had been looking for.
“How?” asked Nino. But, instead of answering, Kitagawa sensei just smiled at him. That’s when he remembered something. The room was prepared by Kitagawa sensei for Ohno’s father. So, of course he knew about the portrait.
“You have to know. There is a spell to reveal the painting. When I prepared the room for Mamoru, I put several layers of spell to ensure it stayed hidden,” said Kitagawa sensei and as he moved aside to let all of them see the painting. All of them were gasping to see the portrait. As for Nino, he was very surprised to see himself in the painting. Well, not really himself, but a female version of him.
“Who is she?” asked Nino.
“Well, I don’t really know. This painting was here when I tried to find a room for Mamoru’s training. I decided to use this painting as the key for the secret room because I am curious to know the identity of the girl. But, I still couldn’t figure it out,”
“Oh. We will figure the identity of the girl later. Now, we need to retrieve the diary of the founder Ohno,” said Nino, deciding that the identity of the mysterious girl is not their priority right now even though he was very curious to know who the girl is.
He stood in front of the portrait and closed his eyes, trying to remember the weird gesture and spell that Mamoru used to open the room. He knew it would be faster if he just asked Kitagawa sensei to open the room but something in his mind tells him that he should be the one who opened the room, otherwise the clue left by Mamoru would stay hidden.
He opened his eyes when he heard everyone gasped and was surprised to see the door appeared in front of him. He couldn’t believe that he managed to open the room. He turned to look at Kitagawa sensei who gave him a nod, clearly impressed with what he did.
“Let’s go inside,” said Ohno and with another nod towards his boyfriend, he opened the door and get inside the room.
The room was exactly like he remembered. There was nothing except a drawer. The only difference was the dust that covered every corner of the room. Of course it would be dusty; no one has come to this room for a long time.
“Ah, it has been a while since I came to this room. I went once after Mamoru died, trying to look for a clue, but there was nothing. Kazunari kun, what makes you think that coming to this room will help us?” asked Kitagawa sensei.
But, instead of answering, both Nino and Ohno went to the drawer to look for the book. They were very happy to see the same book that they saw just now. The diary of the founder Ohno. Eager to know how to defeat Nakai, Nino took the book from the drawer, turning it to the last page with Ohno right beside of him. However, both of them shared the same puzzled look after reading the sentences. They do not understand how the last sentences would help them. Nino just passed the book to the headmaster, hoping that the headmaster may know the meaning of the sentences.
“What is that?” asked Jun after Nino and Ohno passed the book to Kitagawa sensei.
“That is the diary of the founder Ohno,” Nino began to explain.
“When we went frozen just now, we went back to the time when my father chased Ohno’s family away from this house. Ohno’s father casted a spell on my locket which brought us back to that time if both Ohno and I touched the locket at the same time. At that time, Mamoru brought the little me to this room, telling me about the diary of founder Ohno which may help us defeat Nakai. He said the answer lies in my locket, which happened to be the founder Ninomiya’s locket. If we don’t know what to do with the locket, come to this room and read the last sentence. We will know what to with the locket but we do not understand what the last sentences meant or how it would help us know what to do with the locket,”
“Well, isn’t the answer is obvious?” said Sho who was now examining the book. Everyone turned to look at him, asking for explanation.
“To defeat is to know. It means that if you want to defeat Nakai, you have to know who Nakai really is. It’s the same as when you want to put a prank on someone, Nino. Aren’t you the one who always told Aiba to know your enemy before planning a prank. It’s the same here. If we want to defeat Nakai, we need to know his story, what makes him a villain. And founder Ohno gave us the key to know Nakai’s story. It’s the locket,”
“Okay, I know about knowing your enemy in order to defeat the enemy. Mamoru told us that founder Ohno never wrote the solution inside the book. The answer is with the locket. But I don’t understand how the locket will help us to know Nakai’s story,” said Nino, expressing his confusion.
“For someone smart, you are quite slow to understand, aren’t you?” remarked Sho, earning him a glare from Nino. However, Sho just ignored the glare as he walked to Nino and grabbed the locket in Nino’s hand and examined it.
“If you look at the diary, you will notice that a page looks differently than the rest of the pages. I think Ohno’s father would think it would be impossible for you to read the whole diary in case of emergency. So, he highlighted the important page for you,” said Sho as he handed the book back to Nino. Nino examined the book and noticed that indeed one of the pages looks glittering than the others. Turning to the page mentioned, indeed there was a note mentioning his name and Ohno on that page. He immediately read the page.
“We could only watch. Both Kazu and I watched how cruel those villagers are to Nakai. But, we cannot do anything. We could only see the past, but we cannot change it. It’s hard to believe that my power and Kazu’s could be combined to do that,”
Nino looked at Sho, understanding what the sentences could mean and what he should do. But, it’s impossible right? He is not his ancestor, there is no way he would be able to do just like what founder Ninomiya and founder Ohno did in the past.
But, before he could proceed to confirm his suspicion with Sho, there was a bee which keeps on circling Sho. He wanted to kill the bee but Sho stopped him. Soon after, he could hear Aiba’s voice from the bee.
“Nino, it’s bad. I know who Nakai is. He is Ryo. We should do something faster, if not he might kill me and the real Ryo,”said the bee-Aiba.
“Aiba, how do you get here? How did you become a bee?” Asked Sho worriedly.
“Sho, did you forget that I am a descendant of founder Aiba? I just tried to control an animal for the first time, to tell you guys about Nakai,”
“Why didn’t you just turned into a bee and escape from wherever he was keeping you?” Asked Nino.
“No, I cannot do that. I need to get information. Furthermore, I don’t even know how to do that. It takes every energy I have to communicate with you through the bee. I think it will be more difficult to transform into an animal. Wow, I cannot believe I could do this. I could control the bee,” all of them just flabbergasted as they heard how happy Aiba is to be able to control an animal. He sounded as if he forgot that he was now captured by a villain. But, that’s Aiba. His energy is too high and he gets excited too easily to understand his situation sometimes.
“Aiba, stay focus. Now, tell us where you are so we could go and save you,” scolded Jun.
“I don’t know. I am in a room with the real Nishikido Ryo,” again Nino felt like he would like to knock Aiba’s head if the other guy is in front of him. It sounds like Aiba wanted to tell them something important but so far, there were nothing new from him.
“Look at your surrounding. Describe the surrounding to us so we could try to find it,” ordered Jun and suddenly they heard Aiba gasped.
“Aiba, did something happened?” Asked Sho worriedly when Aiba didn’t say anything. Who knows if Nakai has come back and was trying to hurt Aiba.
“No, nothing. When you asked me to look at my surrounding, I just remembered the real reason I contacted you guys is because I want to tell you something. There is a portrait of a female-nino in this room. Nakai was looking at the portrait fondly. I think he likes the girl, but I don’t know who she is. Maybe we could understand Nakai’s story if we know who this girl is. I will try to get him to tell me who she is but you guys try to find out about her too. Ah, I am so tired. I don’t think I could control the bee anymore. I will try to contact you again if I could,”
“Take care, Aiba. Don’t force yourself too much. If you keep on bothering Nakai, he will hurt you so please be careful,” said Sho.
“Don’t worry, Sho. I know Nakai will not hurt me. I think there is something bothering his mind right now. He tried to put body-bind curse on me before but I could easily break free from the spell. But, don’t worry I will be careful. Bye bye guys,” said Aiba, ending their conversation. Nino thought of what Aiba told them just now. No doubt, the portrait that Aiba saw was the same as the one used as the key to the room. But, who is the girl?
“Ah, that baka guy. He forgot to tell us about the place he was locked at,” complained Jun. But, Nino just ignored his complaint. Instead he expressed his curiosity about the girl in the potrait.
“Hmm, I wonder who is the girl she was talking about. It should be the same as the one in the portrait here. But, how can we know more about her,”
“I told you, it has to be that way,” reminded Sho.
“But, I don’t think I could do that. I am not founder Ninomiya,”
“So did Aiba. He is not founder Aiba. But, he managed to do what he couldn’t do before. You need to believe in yourself,”
“I agree with Sho. Kazunari and Satoshi should work together to discover the secret of Nakai. I will leave both of you here. You will need quiet surrounding to concentrate on that. The rest of us will try to find any other information we could and locating Aiba,” ordered Kitagawa sensei. Even though reluctant, the rest of his family members, Sho and Jun left the room, leaving both Nino and Ohno alone in the room.
“Do you mind telling me what should we do because I am clueless,” asked Ohno confusedly.
“Okay, I will tell you. It’s not going to be easy but that’s the only way,”
