Time Trials

Stage 7 of the TDF and the individual time trials. Each rider makes the 30-mile circuit racing against the clock. This is when the GC men have to step up and set the stage for the Tour.

I'm watching the live OLN broadcast. The Americans are not doing so well today.

American Bobby Julich crashed and is out of the race. He hit the road hard and slid on the asphalt about 20-25 feet. He was able to stand, but he was holding his left arm. He put it out to help break his fall and most likely injured his wrist.

Levi Leipheimer, had a very slow time. He might be sick. Two riders have already had to pull out due to illness. Levi is a big favorite around here. He makes his home in the hills overlooking the city.

David Zabriskie had a good time, but not in the top ten. Floyd Landis had a flat and lost time. George isn't looking for a win today. He just wants to be within reach of the overall yellow jersey.

Almost all the Americans are on other teams. Bobby Julich, Christian Vandevelde and David Zabriskie are on CSC, a Danish team, by the way. Levi rides for Gerolsteiner. Floyd Landis rides for Phonak. Chris Horner and Fred Rodriguez are on Davitamon-Lotto. In contrast Team Discovery has only one, George Hincapie.

ETA: Ukranian Sergei Honchar riding for T-Mobile wins Stage 7 and takes the yellow jersey. George came in 24th and is in 17th place overall. 2:30 behind the best time. Yikes. Discovery has some work to do now.
