A lot has happened in the last week.
Two of my downstairs neighbors moved out and new ones are moving in. I hope they are quieter than the former tenants.
I went rock climbing for the first time and loved it! Our Student Rec Center has climbing walls. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about myself. A couple other staff people invited me to join them on their weekly climbs. I'm going to take them up on it.
Watched Kings last Sunday. Loved it! I missed the pilot and have some catching up to do, but I was pulled in right away. It reminded me of The Tudors or a Kenneth Branaugh adaptation of a Shakespeare play. Refreshing, contemporary, and engaging.
I'm reading Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth. Great stuff. A fellow staff member sent out an email asking if there was interest in forming a book group around this one. I read an except and was hooked. That afternoon I went to Treehorn Books, one of my favorite haunts. A used bookstore with tons of books. I walked in, asked if they had the book, looked over at the shelf next to the register, and there it was facing out, waiting for me with its arms open. Picked it up at half the original price. I'm on Chapter 5 and the book group will be meeting soon.
Saw Slumdog Millionaire, Watchmen, and The Wrestler. Really enjoyed all three films. Slumdog is rich in images and emotions put together especially well. Watchmen is a welcome change from the glut of superhero movies. It has a cynical twist and a wicked sense irony. It's well-cast and merits a second viewing if only for the montage during the opening credits. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. There was a lot of information contained in those images. Mickey Rourke is pitch-perfect in The Wrestler. This movie brought back memories of my fan days during the Golden Age of the WWF. With a touch of the autograph room at a Star Trek convention. Poignant and touching with no easy answers.
Tonight was the last writers night at the public library, a write-in every Wednesday during the month of March. Each session had time to get acquainted followed by a guest presenter and then 90 minutes of writing. I had a great time at these write-ins and got a lot of writing done, just as I did during the weekly NaNoWriMo write-ins they had last November.
