Oh America
this is when i love you
your green horns shining up from the ground.

Should I
roll in the grass of my childhood
catch the scales and fins of youth
gripped tight in my palms
ripping the hook from its jaw.

Oh America
I left my girl in Oregon,
its mountains guarding her pale skin
i tan my hide in preparation for the great embrace

Here I am as natural as dirt,
a seed as native as arrow heads deep in my arms
I love her like a river loves a lake, waiting for the
close quarters of white waves crashing into
the salt and muck of
still waters
