Spaztasm: the end has come but i still prosper

Apr 04, 2010 15:04

I finished Star Trek: TOS. There's still the movies, but as of right now... no more episodes. I am sad. I am happy. I am Vulcan glad I finally made the decision to watch such awesomeness.

For my own reference, a list of my favorites with their plot overviews:

[ ♥ ]

00. Bread and Circuses: Captain Kirk and his companions are forced to fight in gladiatorial games on a planet modeled after the Roman Empire.
00. The Trouble With Tribbles: Tribbles, purring, limbless, and fertile, disrupt the exploitation of a disputed planet between the Klingons and Federation.
00. The Deadly Years: Strange radiation exposes the command crew of the Enterprise to the effects of rapid aging.
00. Arena: While pursuing an unknown enemy for an apparently unprovoked attack, Captain Kirk is forced by powerful entities to battle the opposing captain unarmed.

[ ♥♥ ]

00. Court Martial: Captain Kirk stands trial on charges of negligence.
00. The Changeling: The crew of the Enterprise deals with Nomad-an indestructible, planet-destroying space probe that thinks Kirk is its creator.
00. The Enemy Within: A transporter mishap divides Captain Kirk into two versions of himself, one good and one evil, but neither is able to function separately for long.
00. Plato's Stepchildren: The crew of the Enterprise encounters an ageless and mischievous race of psychic humanoids who claim to have organized their society around Ancient Greek ideals.

[ ♥♥♥ ]

00. The Tholian Web: Captain Kirk is caught between dimensions while the Enterprise is trapped by an energy draining web spun by mysterious aliens.
00. A Piece of the Action: The Enterprise visits a planet with an Earth-like, violent, 1920s gangster culture.
00. Let That Be Your Last Battlefield: The Enterprise picks up the last two survivors of a war-torn planet who are still committed to destroying each other aboard the ship.
00. The Menagerie: Spock kidnaps his former commander Christopher Pike, locks the Enterprise on a course to the forbidden planet Talos IV, and turns himself in for court-martial. Epic ensues.

[ ♥♥♥♥ ]

00. Journey to Babel: While the Enterprise is transporting dignitaries to an important peace conference, an assassin is discovered.
00. The Gamesters of Triskelion: Captain Kirk and his companions are sent to fight as gladiators for the gambling entertainment of three disembodied beings.
00. Mirror, Mirror: A transporter mishap slips Captain Kirk and his companions into a parallel universe, where the Enterprise serves a barbaric Empire instead of the Federation.
00. The Galileo Seven: Mr. Spock leads a scientific team aboard the Enterprise shuttlecraft Galileo on an ill-fated mission.

[ ♥♥♥♥♥ ]

00. Amok Time: Mr. Spock shows evidence of starting to lose control over his emotions. Pon farr win.
00. This Side of Paradise: The Enterprise visits a planet, where the inhabitants are under the control of strange plant life.
00. Patterns of Force: The crew of the Enterprise visits a planet dominated by a Nazi culture and at war with its planetary neighbor.
00. Metamorphosis: A shuttle crew from the Enterprise encounters a castaway (who appears to be Zefram Cochrane, the inventor of warp drive) and his mysterious alien companion.
00. The Naked Time: A strange affliction infects the crew of the Enterprise, destroying their inhibitions.

Edit: And I've now completed the entire series, including the movies.

00. The Motion Picture: Okay, let me start off with a disclaimer. I watched this with the heartbreak of knowing there were no more episodes left... and I was also chatting with Steve the entire time... so basically, my focus may have been compromised. However, as it stands, I love TMP. Really, I do. It was strange and the motivations to some of it is definitely lacking canon-side (um, Spock anyone?) and they did the story before... but I love it. I want to read the book, because it is supposed to be a lot better and, admittedly, for the infamous footnote (here and here).

00. Wrath of Khan: This is one unf in the making. It is decidedly the best "movie" movie out of the TOS bunch, and the best as well. The idea is so fucking clever, and the characters are so spot on, and the acting... deary me, I was floored at times at how real they all felt. I wanted to hug them and say THIS IS MY BRIDGE CREW, YOU WITTY BASTERDS. And then there's the undeniable DAMMMMMN of shipping going on. Spork actually feels so resoundingly... established. And that dying scene... [/shivers.] I replayed it again and again. However, the most beautiful thing for me? When Kirk chokes up at the very end. That pain was fucking tangible. Unf.

00. The Search for Spock: When you know your ship's canon, it's muthafucking canon. But beyond k/s, it was about the bridge crew... the absolute beauty that is the bridge crew. And even beyond that, the epic that is kirkxspockxmccoy. I see it as utterly fitting that Spock's katra was housed in McCoy. It forms just a wonderful little triangle of pwn and utter friendship that makes me all soft inside. It was this movie that I realized [a] I have a huge old-man-hawt crush on the good doctor (uuuuuuuuunf) and more importantly, [b] that I might just rate kxsxm as my favorite friendship trio ever. Considering my rabid attachment to harryxronxhermione, that's a crazy sentiment. Oh, and I must mention this: Sarek is one BAMF. And that scene in Kirk's room... Dude, that is seriously my favorite K/S, movie!verse and maybe even TOS moment ever. It's... I cannot even begin to explain how much that scene struck me with it's sheer force. It is... heartbreaking and powerful and OMG SAREK SEES IT TOO and Kirk is so broken... UuuuuUUuUUuuuuuunf.

00. The Voyage Home: Oh man, the fucking win of this unexplainable. SAVE THE WHALES, BIOTCH. It was hilarious. It was fun like fun should be. It was, like, the best and most in-character crossover fic (this being, of course, between ST, Nova and Full House, guest starring the mom from 7th Heaven) ever written. Ever. Also, I realized I have yet another old-man-hawt crush during this movie, this time on Sarek. My only problem was Spock's outfit, but at the same time, the sheer ridiculousness of it softens my heart.

00. The Final Frontier: Okay. Okay. Okay. How can I like this one? Now don't judge me too harshly, but it felt like watching the actual TOS series... like a really long episode or something that had a few [/headdeskfloor] moments of cheesy, wince-worthy... um, humor. After watching the bridge crew involved in these huge big strange adventures, it was nice to see them like back in the old days. Oh, AND FUCK YES IS THAT UHURA/SCOTTY? UNFFFFFFFF. I do not, however, accept Sybok as Sarek's son. Nope. Nuh-uh. Fuck you for a minute, canon, as I expel that character from memory. (Bets for the possibility of me actually mentioning Sybok in later writing?) Except for the scene with McCoy and Spock's worst memories, I probably won't watch this ever again to retain the like I feel for it.

00. The Undiscovered Country: It felt like the end. It was wonderfully old and gently weighted and cheezily Shakespearean and the last few minutes... I shed a tear in my eternally pansy way at the end of this. Cheers.

00. XI/Nu!verse: HAI PRETTY EFFECTS. HAI NEW UNIVERSE. HAI ENTERPRISE. HAI FANDOM. HAI BRAIN-EXPLOSION THAT IS PARALLEL UNIVERSE. HAI SURPRISE HYPOSPRAYS. Scott, you're hot and I want your crazy, drunken babies. Chekov, you're hot and the love I have for you is immeasurable except to say that I want to make you cry. McCoy, you need to grow back that beard, honey, because only then will you be hot too. Uhura, you scare me but you are gangster so rock on. Sulu, YOU HAVE A MUTHAFUCKING RETRACTABLE SWORD but you need to shine a little more. [SURPRISE HYPOSPRAY!] Sarek, you are not as hot as TOS!Sarek but you are sweet as ever. Gaila&Cupcake, I don't like you so why are you even on this list? Chapel, where art thou, sweetie? Pike, dude, the universe(s) just don't like you. [SURPRISE HYPOSPRAY!] Nero, you are not Khan. Amanda, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (must search for Sarek/Amanda fiction to ease the fuckery). George&Winona, it sucks that the bloody thing that changes in the universe is between you too. Sam, WAI NO NAME? Stanley, the entirety of fandom has decided that you are an abusive jerk who . [SURPRISE HYPOSPRAY!] Wee!Kirk&Wee!Spock, I just wanna hug you and make the pain go away. Kirk, you need to pull your shirt down more often to maintain character (jk... I think) but black looks smoking on you; also, you're hot and such a BAMF it's not even funny. Prime!Spock, you are old and you make my heart squishy and no, you did not put Strange New Not-There Before Rapey feelings into Kirk: I don't know why nu!Spock and/or nu!Kirk always think you did. AND SPEAKING OF nu!SPOCK. [SURPRISE HYPOSPRAY!] Okay. Okay. Okay. I love you Spock, I really do, but no. No. No. No. You. Cannot. Do. That. With. Uhura. And. Be. In-character. No. Seriously, NO. That's not allowed. This frustration I have has nothing to do with Kirk/Spock and very little to do with Uhura/Scotty, and very much to do with the fact that it just... is... no. (BUT. BUT. BUT. If you do ship S/U, I've got nothing but love for you, of course, because even I can admit that it's hot in that way I shouldn't be allowed to think about.) [SURPRISE HYPOSPRAY!] Other than that, I fucking loved this movie, plan to watch it again and again and again and OMG BREATHPLAY IS CANONKINK and again and again.
