Well now! According to the trustworthy people at lj, its been 22 weeks since my last post. Which, I think we'll all agree, is a disgrace on my part! But don't worry, I'm still alive, and I haven't spent those 22 weeks idle. So here goes the update...
So, back in November I started a new job working for the AA. And before you ask, no, not the drink people. :) Seemed like a good idea at the time, at least in comparison to Tesco, which was hell on earth. Nice office job, call centre work, so there was contact with the outside world. In the interview I'd been told it was a highly goal and target oriented job, ideal for someone looking to get a foothold in the career ladder. Four months down the line, I can tell you that's the biggest load of b****cks a company has ever tried to feed me. There's no progression in a call centre. You do not, under any circumstances, get an opportunity to shine, exhibit any sort of talent, or distinguish yourself. Instead, you get abused by customers and tortured by senior staff. The conclusion... Call centres are evil.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel! I got in touch with a recruitment agency, through a friend who'd found them excellent. And I have to say, they've given a stellar performance so far! Within 24 hours I'd one interview scheduled, and at least three others in the pipeline. I'm waiting now to hear from the one I really want. The interview was this Tuesday, and I should hopefully know by tomorrow whether I've gotten it or not. That'd be really nice. Better job and better pay means a happier, less stressed and less financially fucked Aoife. Always a good thing!
In the meantime, I've also just moved out of home, into a houseshare with three great people. I'm really happy here, and having the freedom to live life the way I wish to is quite amazing. Even the simple joy of being online at 1.30 on a Saturday morning is special!
And in other news, I've started putting some actual work into my portfolio. I had my first shoot this evening, with another one scheduled for 10am tomorrow. The first of this evening's set has already been sent over to me, so it'll be going up just as soon as I finish writing this. Much kudos to the photographer, James, for making me look that good. He's a true professional. And an amazing graphic designer as well! There may yet be random photos of me appearing in odd places around. Keep an eye out! :p
Well, given that it's taken two evenings to write this properly, I think I should call it a day. Plenty more yet to tell, once I decide what parts are suitable for a public forum!!! Be well.
