To 2017

As you know, I don't usually do resolutions, but I do New Year's wishes. These are the things I'm thinking about this year.

1) Host - One of the elements in our Ketubah specifically mentions sharing our home with others. I realize that in the 8 months we've been here we STILL have not had a housewarming party. Now that we have finally had time to spend with each other, I think it's high time that I invite back my friends instead of always relying on them to host. We may start small, but I hope to have a dinner here and a poetry reading there and gradually bring all my varied friends together again.
2) Save - Finally we have gone from in the red to in the black, but we still have a fair mountain of student loans to get through. We're now doing well enough that I can contemplate saving or at least paying down that debt and NOT just the interest, so I'm looking forward to better financial horizons ahead.
3) Do fun things with the girls - So far our excursions have definitely been focused on what we enjoy, though to be fair we've been to the zoo and the Museum of Science far more than we would have without kids. Last month we finally got V into a swim class and it is a joy to see how much she enjoys it. I want to spend more time discovering what my girls like and doing that.
4) Continue nesting - I've never been very good at nesting. My nests are always more like squirrels nests -- overstuffed and shaggy at the edges. I'd like to unpack more and declutter more and in general surround myself with things that make my home better, even if that thing is the absence of stuff.
5) Cook - I already do quite a bit of cooking, although I have to admit now that A probably does more than half these days. Still, it is one of my great pleasures, and I'd like to expand my repertoire. Once a week might be a stretch, but at least twice a month I want to discover a new recipe that I can add to our regulars to mix it up a bit.

Wow, it sounds very family-oriented and sedate, but these are actually my goals this year and I'm pretty happy with them.
