Someone summarized the book "All I ever needed to know I learned in Kindergarten" with the following three points:
--Share
--Clean up after yourself
--Say you're sorry if you hurt someone
We are deep in the midst of those lessons. V is beyond the preschool basics. She can go to the potty herself, she can dress herself, she can feed herself. She's bright and agile and curious, but oh, those kindergarten lessons are still tough and cause plenty of arguments. She can be generous, she can pick up, she can say she's sorry, but most of the time she doesn't, and I'm not sure she gets the "why". I hope that nth time will take, and I'm sure it will.
M however is speeding along apace. She went from cruising to running about the house like a sailor on the high seas (wide legged and a bit stumbly). She uses a spoon to feed herself at times and at other times as a catapult. She can give lovely hugs, but she also thinks hitting you with a toy is the most fun ever. [It is not.] And while she understands that the cat likes to be patted on the back, that tail is just too enticing not to grab. She does know that it's easier to get off of a couch feet first, that shoes go on feet (but not exactly how to get them there), and how to wiggle a toothbrush up and down in your mouth. She knows so many words, and can say "up", "wa-wuh"(water), "doggy", "cat", "hat" and most importantly "that" (with tiny index finger pointed firmly).
It's strange to think that in three short years, M will be older than V is now and V will be a second grader. Better keep an eye on them because they'll be getting their drivers license in no time.
