Ten months, 3 3/4 years

It has been a very busy winter what with job search, apartment search, the continuous series of colds, and occasional moonlighting shifts to prevent insolvency. I turn around and sure enough my girls are older.

Ten months M is growing a pace. She crawls, but mostly wriggles to where she wants to be, then sits and pulls up as far as she can to get what she needs. She is slimmer than V at her age with only a single chin and no chubby arm folds. She's not particularly interested in baby food, but she seems to love OUR food including sucking tomato sauce off of homemade pizza, potato leek soup, and even West African peanut soup with a touch of cayenne. Her tastes are broad. This is a great relief to us, though I can't take full credit. Sure, we are sharing food with M differently but V always had a sensitive stomach, from her six months of reflux to her immediate refusal of any vegetable matter since infancy. M has six great teeth in her wee little mouth and loves using them on everything.

Three and three-quarters V is so charming and bright. She's moved up to 50-piece puzzles and very much enjoys the game Chutes and Ladders. We discovered Frog and Toad are Friends together and I find it so charming I don't mind reading it again and again. She giggles as she recites it to herself in bed. She also creates wonderful impressionistic art by rubbing crayons lengthwise along the paper yielding great swaths of colors blending into one another. She's also inspiring art in others and received a lovely hand-drawn Valentine from a classmate.

I'm looking forward to this summer when we plan to do our first family vacation. Best idea so far? Find a cabin on a lake somewhere and chill for a week. Any recommendations within a half-day drive?
