1.

Is love so fragile...
And the heart so hollow
Shatter with words...
Impossible to follow
You’re saying I’m fragile...I try not to be
I search only...for something I cant see

I have my own life...and I am stronger
Than you know
But I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you wont be walking out the door
Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you wont be walking out the door

Lovers forever...face to face
My city, your mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather...
Take from me...my lace

You in the moonlight
With your sleepy eyes
Could you ever love a man like me
And you were right
When I walked into your house
I knew Id never want to leave
Sometimes I’m a strong man
Sometimes cold and scared
And sometimes I cry
But that time I saw you
I knew with you to light my nights
Somehow Id get by
First time I saw you
I knew with you to light my nights
Somehow I would get by

Lovers forever...face to face
My city, your mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me...my lace

Lovers forever...face to face
My city ,you mountains...stay with me stay
I need you to love me...I need you to stay
Give to me your leather
Take from me...my lace
Take from me...my lace
Take from me...my lace

2.
And Id give up forever to touch you
cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that ill
Ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
cause sooner or later its over
I just don’t want to miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you cant fight the tears that ain't
Coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

3.
The first time I looked in your eyes I knew
That I would do anything for you
The first time you touched my face I felt
What I've never felt with anyone else
I wanna give back what you've givin' to me
And I wanna witness all of your dreams
Now that you've shown me who I really am
I wanna be more then just your man

I wanna be the wind that fills your sails
And be the hand that lifts your veil
Be the moon that moves your tide
The sun coming up in your eyes
Be the wheel that never rusts
And be the spark that lights you up
All that you've been dreaming of and more
So much more, I wanna be your everything...

When you wake up, I'll be the first thing you see
And when it gets dark you can reach out to me
I'll cherish your words and I'll finish your thoughts
And I'll be your compass baby, when you get lost

I wanna be the wind that fills your sails
And be the hand that lifts your veil
Be the moon that moves your tide
The sun coming up in your eyes
Be the wheel that never rusts
Be the spark that lights you up
All that you've been dreaming of and more
So much more, I wanna be your everything...

I'll be the wheel that never rusts
And be the spark that lights you up
All that you've been dreaming of and more
So much more, I wanna be your everything...
I wanna be your everything

I wanna be your everything

4.

You with the sad eyes
Don’t be discouraged
Oh I realize
Its hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then,
Don’t be unhappy, cant remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know Ill be there

And Ill see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

(when I last saw you laughing)
If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know Ill be there

And Ill see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show

Your true colors
True colors
True colors
Shining through

I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

5.

There'll be a storm one night
Then I'll fly to you for shelter
Soaked in welcome rain
Falling to forbidden arms
Too breathless, too helpless
Too restless to explain needing you

There'll be a storm one night
But you will find my place of hiding
We'll watch the lights like children
Leave the fortress hand in hand

I'll be thunder
You'll be the lightning
I'll be thunder
You'll be the lightning
And we'll collide on dry land

There'll be a storm one night
And I will find no other rescue
Lost and far from home
Crying for some guiding light
Too reckless, too helpless
Too hungry to refrain from needing you

There'll be a storm one night
The wind will drive me to your castle
And you'll ignite the fire
Just as if everything were planned

I'll be thunder
You'll be the lightning
And we'll collide on dry land

No betrayal, no denial
No need to explain
We'll collide

6.

There’s a wind that blows
It’s calling your name
And it speaks to me again and again
Telling me go to her
Don’t let her go
Hold her close to you
Then you will know the meaning of love
Exactly what it’s all about
The feeling that I get when I can’t forget
Everything that makes me want to [you]
That’s how deep it goes
All I really know
Is that I love you so and

If it’s the only thing I ever do
Then I know it’s true
That I should love someone like you
Someone who believes in me
Makes my voice to sing with a heart so free
As sure as I can be
For me if one dream can come true
Then I will love someone like you

In your eyes I see
A life that could mean so much more
With you next to me
And if time is cruel
Well I won’t run and hide
I could walk through fire with you by my side
Cause after all if we want forever
There’s a hand to hold
Through the sad and cold
When nobody wants to know you

So never let it go
and you’ll never be alone
knowing that I love you so and

If it’s the only thing I ever do
Then I know it’s true
That I should love someone like you
Someone who believes in me
Makes my voice to sing with a heart so free
As sure as I can be
For me if one dream can come true
Then I will love someone like you

So never let it go
and you’ll never be alone
knowing that I love you so and

If it’s the only thing, the only thing I ever do
Then I know it’s true
That I should love someone like you
Someone who believes in me
Makes my voice to sing with a heart so free
As sure as I can be
For me if one dream can come true
Then I will love someone like you

Then I should love someone like you

7.

oh, why you look so sad?
tears are in your eyes
come on and come to me now
don't be ashamed to cry
let me see you through
'cause I’ve seen the dark side too
when the night falls on you
you don't know what to do
nothing you confess
could make me love you less
I’ll stand by you
I’ll stand by you
won't let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you
so if you're mad, get mad
don't hold it all inside
come on and talk to me now
hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
well I’m a lot like you
when you're standing at the crossroads
and don't know which path to choose
let me come along
'cause even if you're wrong
I’ll stand by you
I’ll stand by you
won't let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you
take me in, into your darkest hour
and I’ll never desert you
I’ll stand by you
and when...
when the night falls on you, baby
you're feeling all alone
you won't be on your own
I’ll stand by you
I’ll stand by you
won't let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you take me in, into your darkest hour
and I’ll never desert you
I’ll stand by you
I’ll stand by you
won't let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you
won't let nobody hurt you
I’ll stand by you

8.

You've been livin' way too long,
In broken-promise land.
Your dreams crushed an' scattered,
Like a million grains of sand.
I'd love to be your redemption,
But I am just a man,
I may never be a hero.
But I’m a rock you can lean on.

If I don't love you like you deserve;
If I don't stop every tear you're cryin';
If I don't make your life,
A Heaven on this earth,
I'll die tryin'.
I'll die tryin'.

I'll listen to your secret prayer,
An' share your deepest wish;
Search for a hundred years,
Just to find the perfect kiss.
Of everything within my power,
There's nothin' I won't give,
To be that part of you an' your life,
Oh, that takes what's wrong an' makes it right.

If I don't love you like you deserve;
If I don't stop every tear you're cryin';
If I don't make your life,
A Heaven on this earth,
I'll die tryin'.
I'll die tryin'.

I may never be a hero,
But I'm a rock you can lean on.

If I don't love you like you deserve;
If I don't stop every tear you're cryin';
If I don't make your life,
A Heaven on this earth,
I'll die tryin'.
Oh, I'll die tryin'.
I'll die tryin'.

9.
Touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
Your lips, hold a wild desire
And give a kiss like the devil's fire
Your kind of love could burn a town
Touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
You touch brings me to my knees
You've got me begging "please, please, please"
Take my heart and melt it down
Touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
You're a wild love, I can't tame
Your kisses burn like flames
I go crazy, when you're around
So touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
I'm devoured by your fiery flame
My lips can only speak your name
Just spread my ashes all around
Ah touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
You're a wild love, I can't tame
Your kisses burn like flames
I go crazy, when you're around
So touch me, turn me on, and burn me down
Touch me, turn me on, and burn me down

10.
I was yours before the first morn broke
Before the sun that woke the earth
And I was yours before rain kissed the ground
Before the first dawn's sound was heard

I'll be the whisper of angels
And I'll be the frost on your glass
And I'll be the shadows at twilight
I'll be your first your last

I'm the rush-the fire in your veins
Across the desert plains I ride
I'm the ache the sound that midnight makes
A streak of star across the sky

I'll be the whisper of angels
And I'll be the frost on your glass
And I'll be the shadows at twilight
I'll be your first your last

11. Can’t Keep Me From You - Indigenous (no lyrics available)

12.

She's my kind of rain
Like love in a drunken sky
She's confetti falling
Down all night

She sits quietly there
Like water in a jar
Says, Baby why are you
Trembling like you are

So I wait
And I try
I confess like a child

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's the sun set shadows
She's like Rembrandt's light
She's the history that's played at night
She's my lost companion
She's my dreaming tree
Together in this brief eternity
Summer days, winter snows
She's all things to behold

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

So I wait
And I try
I confess all my crimes

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's my kind of rain
Oh, rain on me
She's my kind of rain

13.
Baby I've been drifting away
And dreaming all day
Of holding you, touching you,
The only thing I wanna do is be with you
As close to you as I can be

Let's make love
All night long
Until our strength is gone
Hold on tight
Just let go
I want to feel you in my soul
Until the sun comes up
Let's make love

Do you know what you do to me
Everything inside of me
Is wanting you, needing you
I'm so in love with you
Look in my eyes
Let's get lost tonight
In each other

Let's make love
All night long
Until our strength is gone
Hold on tight
Just let go
I want to feel you in my soul
Until the sun comes up
Let's make love

14.

The strands in your eyes
That color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains
Thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth

Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated,
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows
Of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

Rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You're my survival
You're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead

Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows
Of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

I've dropped out
Burned up
Fought my way back from the dead
Tuned in
Turned on
Remembered the things you said
I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of you life

15.

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away
I will always love you
However long I stay
I will always love you
Whatever words I say
I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away
I will always love you
However long I stay
I will always love you
Whatever words I say
I will always love you
I will always love you

16.

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
Of the moon
Come to my window
Ill be home soon

I would dial the numbers
Just to listen to your breath
I would stand inside my hell
And hold the hand of death
You don’t know how far Id go
To ease this precious ache
You don’t know how much Id give
Or how much I can take

Just to reach you
Just to reach you
Just to reach you

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
Of the moon
Come to my window
Ill be home soon

Keeping my eyes open
I cannot afford to sleep
Giving away promises
I know that I cant keep
Nothing fills the blackness
That has seeped into my chest
I need you in my blood
I am forsaking all the rest
Just to reach you
Just to reach you
Oh to reach you

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
Of the moon
Come to my window
Ill be home soon

I don’t care what they think
I don’t care what they say
What do they know about this
Love anyway

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
Of the moon
Come to my window
Ill be home soon

1. Leather & Lace - This is probably more feminine than I normally imagine Riza. I think the appeal of it for me is the line ‘Lovers forever.’ To me, that seems so fitting.

2. Iris - It just seems like a perfect song to sum up some of the feelings and frustrations Roy has to feel, especially the opening stanza.

3. Your Everything - ‘I wanna witness all of your dreams’ who wouldn’t want to hear that from their lover? I think this is what Roy would like to be for Riza.

4. True Colors - Roy needs someone to see all the hidden aspects of him and this song depicts that well. I can see Riza feeling this way.

5. I’ll Be Thunder - A song about forbidden lovers stealing time together, what could be more perfect for Roy and Riza?

6. Someone like you - ‘There’s a hand to hold through the sad and cold,’ just a little something both Roy and Riza need.

7. I’ll Stand By You - ‘I’ll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,’ certain one of the things Riza sees as her mission in life. If you asked, Roy, he’d probably feel the same.

8. I’ll Die Tryin’ - I think ultimately Roy wants nothing more than to help people and care for those he loves. This song about trying to make heaven on Earth for his lovers captures that feeling.

9. Burn me Down - Love is all well and good but passion is a great thing, too. Burning hot sex is what the colonel ordered.

10. Whisper of Angels - Another delicate song of love seems to perfectly sum up Riza

11. Can’t Keep Me From You - From a band special to me, the title pretty much says it all.

12. She’s My Kind of Rain - Another nice view of Riza through Roy’s eyes.

13. Let’s Make Love - Two people letting their passion sweep them away, ‘Let's make love All night long, Until our strength is gone,’ I think they wouldn’t have it any other way.

14. I’ll Be - The biggest fan of your life goes both ways for these two.

15. Lovesong - Included as much for the reason I love The Cure as it seems to be a very good song for the pair.

16. Come to My Window - ‘I would stand inside my hell And hold the hand of death’ Ishbal anyone? They’ve already been there and done that.

And now the stories inspired by the soundtrack

Rating - PG
Time Line - Some time after Ed joins the military but before the bulk of the action once he hits fifteen.
Pairing - Royai
Summary - Riza muses on her feelings for Roy
Author’s Note - This was written for the Fantrack sound track, inspired by Amici Forever’s Whisper of Angels . Thanks to evil_little_dog for the beta.

Riza didn’t allow herself much time to daydream. For one, it was very unprofessional. Secondly, if not for her and Fuery, precious little would get done. Breda and Falman weren’t so bad but Havoc, as much as she liked him personally, could be lazy. Still, he was no match for the colonel who usually featured in Riza’s daydreams the rare times she allowed herself to have them.

Mustang was the master of procrastination. It was practically an art form in his hands. Riza knew the trick was to get him interested in whatever duty he was supposed to be performing. Good luck with that when it came to quarterly reports and requisitions. Riza had become a master manipulator when it came to Mustang. She’d been practicing since they were kids and he was studying with her father. Back then the promise to flash him her bra strap was a prime motivator. He’d clean the whole house to show status for the promise of seeing panties.

Now that he was older, he was a lot hard to motivate and the military would frown on her using her undergarments to galvanize her superior officer. Then again, so had her father. He had graphically demonstrated flame alchemy the one time he’d caught Roy ogling her lacy bra. Roy still had a little scar on his backside from that encounter. Some lazy nights Riza liked to trace it with her finger. Being ticklish, Roy would usually fuss.

Luckily for her, threats of bodily harm worked on him now. No one doubted Riza would follow through even if he was a superior. It helped to keep up the illusion that she merely tolerated the alchemist, a guise they needed for their own safety. Riza suspected the only one of Roy’s hand picked team to be fooled was Fuery. Falman and Breda were too bright and Havoc knew them from Ishbal. Ten years of companionship did strip away illusions but Roy had picked these men for a reason; he trusted them with his life.

Riza rounded up the latest stack of paperwork and headed into his office. She hesitated, surprised not to see him at his desk. Riza located him by the frost-coated window, stretched out on the floor, surrounded by a stack of books. Sound asleep, Roy had one knee bent, the book still resting against his leg and one arm lay over the hollow of his belly. What a strange sleeping posture!

Riza smiled softly. Sometimes she wondered if Edward’s resemblance to Roy in personality, right down to the strange sleeping positions, was why she was so fond of the occasionally rude boy. (Riza never had to wonder why she was fond of Alphonse. Who could resist the big hearted, cat-loving doll of a young man?)

Riza set down the paperwork and perched on the edge of the desk, looking down at the boy she was most fond of. Boy, Roy would throw a tantrum hearing that term applied to him but sometimes that’s how she still saw him, as the boy who came to her father’s home.

She couldn’t remember a time she didn’t love Roy. Even before Riza knew what love was, before she understood sex, she was his. She flashed her panties as much for herself as for him. Riza remembered standing at her father’s grave, Roy worrying what would become of her and about his own dreams perishing because he believed the secrets of flame alchemy had been buried with her father. And all she could think of was his demise. Riza heard his words about dying on the side of the road like trash and he didn’t mind so long as he got a chance to make the world a better place and knew in that moment she couldn’t let him die.

Being in the military had never entered her mind before that. Riza’s feelings for him, her need to protect him took her down a path she had never imagined walking. For him, she became a killer and a damned good one. She had no idea that she could be a sniper, let alone be amazing with a gun. For him, Riza held a weapon she didn’t really like, to do things she hated. And somehow she was okay with it because of him.

Riza watched Roy sleep. She honestly couldn’t remember a time she didn’t love him. He had been her first lover. She couldn’t imagine a life without him. Even though they had to hide their relationship from the world, she wouldn’t trade it. He was her first. Riza wanted him to be her last, her only. Sliding off the desk, Riza locked the door then dropped to her knees so she couldn’t be seen from the windows. As a sniper, she was used to silently crawling over rough terrain to get a shot so getting across the office floor without waking him was easy.

Riza leaned over Roy. He had patchy bristles on his chin so whatever his new obsession was, it had been keeping him too busy to shave, not that Roy needed to do that often. He grew a poor beard. Riza bent down and kissed him softly. He woke into the kiss, reaching up to cup her head as her tongue slipped into his mouth. He tasted like the coffee he had drank in vain to keep awake. The book slipped out of his lap.

She pulled away gently. “Roy.”

He grumbled wordlessly, chasing her lips. His eyes finally opened, blinking in confusion. “Where?”

“You’re on the office floor,” Riza said, scooting back.

Roy sat up, bafflement on his face. “Why...”

Riza smiled softly. “I assume you fell asleep reading.”

“No, why’d you wake me like that when we’re in the office?” He picked up the fallen book.

Riza crawled back to the door and stood up. “Sometimes a little risk is good, keeps you on your toes.”

Roy snorted. “Certainly can be pleasant enough.”

“Good.” Riza smiled at him then let her demeanor change. Someone might start wondering why she was in the office so long. “Sir, I put the paperwork on your desk. It needs doing immediately.”

Roy’s shoulders slumped. “Can’t we claim there was an accident and it was all destroyed?”

She arched an eyebrow at him and he pouted. “By this afternoon if you will, sir. What were you researching so hard?” Riza gestured at the book.

“Running down a clue for the brothers about that...myth they like so much.” He smirked as he settled back behind his desk. No one ever referred to the Philosopher’s Stone in the office just in case it was bugged. “They’ll be back soon. It would be nice to send them right back off on another mission that might help.”

This was one of the things she loved best about Roy; he was willing to go the extra mile to help the people he considered ‘his.’ Edward might not understand that but Riza had faith he would some day. “Good plan, sir. If you need help, loan me some of the books,” she offered.

Roy smiled as sweet as a bakery display. “Thanks, Hawkeye.” His eyes flicked to the frost-painted glass. “Looks cold out there.”

“That shouldn’t be a problem for the Flame Alchemist,” she replied. “I’ll just hope the steam heat at my place holds out.”

He grinned broadly. ‘Steam heat’ was in their code words, meaning ‘come over tonight and heat the place up.’ “I’m sure it will.”

“Good.” Riza pointed at the stack of paperwork. “By this afternoon, sir.” She left the office to the sounds of his disgruntled groaning.

“Boss driving you nuts?” Havoc asked as she returned to her desk in the anteroom.

Riza rolled her eyes. “Always.”

“What would you do without that?” Havoc smirked as he lit up.

Riza tried not to grin. “I have no idea.”

True Colors
fantrack story #2

Rating - PG
Time Line- while they’re still stationed in the East but before the events of ch25
Summary - She sees the truth about him and loves him anyway
Pairing - Roy/Riza
Author’s Note - This was written for the Fantrack sound track, inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors . Thanks to evil_little_dog for the beta.

‘His scary lieutenant’, that’s how they referred to Hawkeye, sometimes even when she was in the room. Roy played along with it. Personally he loved Riza’s toughness and she knew that. They were both okay with him playing along with the others. It was safer for them both to let people think Hawkeye made him uneasy. Only Hughes knew for certain that Riza was his lover and Havoc probably had seen things in Ishbal that he wisely kept to himself.

Roy kept up another part of their cover; something that Riza found a little more tedious. Roy couldn’t help himself. Flirting came as naturally as breathing. Like it or not, Riza accepted it. She even pretended to be other women when she called in on a mission. Their flirting during those phone calls had embedded code that would be down right pornographic if anyone deciphered it, and frankly, it excited him to no end. Some days Roy was grateful for his big desk that hid many sins.

Riza might not think much of the practice but it helped their cause if Roy flirted in public and let the boys in blue think he had women by the score. Poor Havoc, how many women had Roy accidentally lured away from his friend and subordinate with just some casual flirting? It never failed to earn Roy a stern look from Riza but it wasn’t exactly his fault. And he couldn’t help puffing up like a peacock when that happened. Riza always came along to pluck out a tail feather or two to make sure he didn’t get too full of himself.

Roy glanced out the window at the setting sun. He had sent Riza to check on some complaints about substandard food being served in the cafeteria and didn’t expect her back by the time any of them left for the day. That was strategic planning on his part. Stretching lazily, he sauntered into the anteroom, locking his door behind him. “Good night, everyone.”

“Sir, Lieutenant Hawkeye didn’t make it back yet,” Fuery piped up nervously from where he was putting away the innumerable, pointless files the military generated. Hayate, whom Roy often allowed Riza to bring to work, sat at Fuery’s feet, gnawing on his laces.

“Well, I have to pass by the cafeteria on my way home. I’ll take Hayate over there and meet her,” Roy offered, knowing Riza had taken her purse with her, prepared for this ‘chance’ meeting.

“Oh.” Fuery brightened, oblivious to the knowing glances Falman and Breda exchanged behind his back as they packed it in for the day. “Thank you, sir.”

“No problem.” Roy let Fuery leash up Hayate as he ignored Havoc’s amused looked. Havoc lit up as he packed away files into his desk. “Havoc, how many times do I have to tell you, no smoking in here?”
“Sorry, Boss,” Havoc replied but made no attempt to put it out.

Roy rolled his eyes and took Hayate’s leash. The dog heeled amazingly well. Of course, who blamed the beast? Riza’s ‘Stern Momma’ mode was scary and hot, oh so incredibly hot. He loved it when Stern Momma set her sights on him.

“Hey, Havoc.” Breda’s face had a mischievous cast to it. “Don’t you have a date this weekend?”

Panic flashed in Havoc’s eyes as he waved Breda off. “No, no!”

“I’m pretty sure you do. Weren’t you bragging all day?” Falman asked, trying to fake innocence.

“You have a date, Havoc?” Roy’s eyes lit up as Hayate pranced, eager to go. “You’ll have to introduce us to her.”

Havoc sagged in his chair, cigarette dangling on his lip. “Yes, sir,” he said in a tone that said Roy had already stolen the girl.

Keeping his chuckles to himself, Roy led Hayate out. The little dog looked so cute with his curled tail wagging as he walked. Roy was glad Riza had kept the pup. He liked having the dog around and Hayate made for a convenient reason to meet up outside of work. Hayate was as close to a child as they were likely to have in the near future.

Riza was waiting for them outside the cafeteria. She had no idea how beautiful she was; big, brown eyes that had reclaimed some of the innocence essence he remembered from their childhood.; long, golden hair grown out especially for him since he loved playing with it; a curvy, lush body that made him almost consider God could exist; and the most seductive thing, her sharp mind and her ability to peer behind his shields to really see him.

He walked past her and Riza fell in step with him. He dared to lob a smile her way. “It’s a nice evening,” he said.

“Yes, sir. You look well satisfied with yourself. Dare I ask why or shall I assume the lot of you were acting like boys while I was out?” Her eyebrows arched.

“Assume away.” He passed Hayate’s leash over to her.

Riza gave an unlady-like snort. “So.” She glanced around the street then up to the windows and rooftops to satisfy herself they weren’t being watched. “Tomorrow’s the weekend. Are our plans still intact?”

“Nothing short of all out war or the Elric brothers would change them.” Roy couldn’t help his lascivious look. They planned on meeting in Hanging Rock for an illicit tryst. He couldn’t wait. Sometimes all the sneaking around they had to do was annoying. Sometimes, like now, it added spice to the relationship. The mere thought of the things they would do made him want to drag her down the first concealed alleyway and start the weekend now. Of course, she’d shoot him but it would be worth it.

“Sir, whatever track your train is on right now, you might want to switch it before you can’t walk,” she said wryly, her gaze traveling south of his belt buckle.

Roy’s cheeks stained ruby, all too aware of the beginnings of an erection gathering steam between his legs. “Sorry. Speaking of trains, I’ll be catching the late night one to Hanging Rock. Not much on sleeping anyhow.”

“You need to learn to sleep, sir.” She fretted at him as she always did when it came to his health.

“It’s no fun alone,” he said and was reprimanded with a glare. “That’s when the past bubbles up,” he added quietly with a shudder. Roy hated showing weakness, not even before this woman he loved so much. Truthfully, it was worse in front of her.

Her hand flicked out and brushed his, a fleeting moment like a butterfly landing on a blossom. He wanted more. He wanted her comfort and he hated having to hide the love he felt for her. Riza’s eyes were filled with concern. It was hard for Roy to bear up to this. He wanted to be strong. He wanted to be a man she could respect. In the dead of night, he became the scared little boy he had been in Ishbal, the teen who had been turned into a reluctant weapon, burning a little of his soul with each conflagration he started until he was nothing but char.

“I don’t know how you can stand to be around me, to even want to go with me to Hanging Rock or anywhere,” he said lowly, his mood plummeting like a thermometer in winter.

Riza’s face darkened and she clicked her tongue at Hayate, picking up the pace. Roy was forced to do so as well if he wanted to stay with her. He didn’t know what the hurry was but something told him that if he didn’t follow he’d get dragged along.

When they got to the apartment complex, Riza thrust the leash back into his hand and ushered him through a gate next door to the place. It led to the shared courtyard between three buildings. Riza left him to wander around in the courtyard and give Hayate one last chance to mark territory while she went in the front door of the complex so she could let him in the back. It wouldn’t fool an observant spy but for the casual watcher, they should be okay.

Without a word, she beckoned Roy inside and led him through the cramped hallway with its threadbare carpeting until they got to her small apartment. He let Hayate off the leash but the little dog wasn’t the only thing Riza closed the door behind. She yanked Roy in with them.

“Riza, what?”

She sealed her mouth over his, cutting off further questioning. Pinning him against the door, her mouth devoured him as if she could draw all his pain out that way. He wished she could. He wished moments like this would never end. She broke the kiss but didn’t let him up. “You are special, Roy and not just to me. I hate when you get so depressed, when you start thinking you’re a monster.”
“How can you think I’m not?” he whispered, almost hating the solace he found in her eyes.

“Because I know you, Roy. I know the true you, the person you hide away from the rest of us.” She smoothed a hand over his cheek. “I know the dreams that took you into the military, how you wanted to protect people, and help them. You didn’t see what might happen, what did happen. You didn’t do this for power or because you could, because you liked all the terrible things your power wrought. You suffer for what you did. You work hard to pull yourself up, even if it makes you isolated and lonely so you can be in a position to keep it from happening again. You are a good person and I’m not the only one to see that.”

Roy looked away, unable to bear it. He wasn’t ready to hear it.

Riza made him look at her. “I know this to be the truth. Those are you true colors. You are not just Amestrian Blue, Roy. You are more than a dog on a choke chain. If you were just a pet wagging his tail for the fuhrer do you think I could love you? Do you think Maes would support you? What about Havoc and the rest? They are loyal to you, you Roy, not to the military in general, but you.”

Roy closed his eyes, wanting to believe. He could barely breathe, the love he felt for her tightening his chest.

She kissed him lightly. “You might be flawed, Roy, but you are the best man I’ve ever known.”

He let go of all his fears and worries with those words. Pride got tucked away because love and comfort were more important. She held him through the emotional storm and he knew no matter happened, no matter what they had to do, he would love this woman with all he had. No matter what, wherever she was, he was home and he was safe.

Uniforms hide a multitude of sins, not that Roy thinks Hawkeye has many to hide. Rather, he’s glad that the uniforms tend to make them all sexless. While not a jealous man, there are some things about the lieutenant he’d rather not be too obvious since she spends her days surrounded by men and one of those things was that under the blue jacket lay a killer body. What a lucky gun to get to ride on a hip such as hers all day.

Roy knew he really had nothing to fear from his men where Riza was concerned. Fuery was mildly terrified of her. Havoc damn well knew better than to try and Breda and Falman never seemed all that interested in her. Of course, at work, he did his best to look uninterested as well. The last thing anyone needed was for him and Hawkeye to be caught fraternizing. At work, it was easy to look like she barely tolerated him.

Contrary to popular belief, Roy wasn’t lazy. He could work feverishly on things that mattered to him. No one knew how hard he had trained to achieve the secrets of flame alchemy at such a young age; well no one but Riza who had seen the obsession first hand. Everyone seemed to think he coasted into being one of the youngest colonels in the military. Riza and Hughes understood that he hadn’t gotten there on charm. He had gotten there on the backs of burnt Ishbalans as much as he hated himself for it. Hughes understood the inherent dangers of Mustang’s position. The older generals feared him so it didn’t pay to look too ambitious in the office.

That was easily accomplished. Paperwork bored him. It was easy to shirk that and look lazy. His men knew it was a game. They played along even when he came out of the office barking at them. Even young Fuery had caught on to that. They took care of him and when the time came he’d take care of them. He owed a lot to the overall coordinator of project slack off and still get things done in the end. Hawkeye made sure what needed to get done did and that built in Annoyed-with-Mustang-I-should-shoot-him was worth it just in case the Higher Brass were watching.

Today, however, Roy just couldn’t keep his head in the game. He was kicked back in his chair, feet on the desk, phone resting on his shoulder. He wasn’t really listening to Hughes on the other end. Two year olds just weren’t that interesting, no matter what Maes thought. Besides, Roy had already heard the story about Elicia, the tea set and her stuffed animals.

Roy had other things on his mind. Most importantly that it was Hawkeye’s birthday. The men of the office were trying to be nice and actually doing their work without her pushing them. They had even chipped in and gotten her a basket of sweets from the candy shop. He had allowed her to bring Hayate into the office but at the moment the dog was with him, licking dangling fingers as Mustang daydreamed.

He’d go to Hawkeye’s tonight and they’d have their own special celebration. He had learned a trick with sparkling wine and pureed fruit to make a sensual drink that he couldn’t wait to try on her. He already had chocolate covered strawberries, blackberries and gooseberries at home in his ice box along with the preparations for a romantic meal. Roy could cook, though not many realized that. He hadn’t had a lot of money to pay for his training with Hawkeye’s father so he worked off his debt, cooking for the family, cleaning house, doing whatever his Teacher needed him to do. He’d use that to his advantage tonight. Granted, he was better with things that required an open flame but he was no one-trick pony.

Roy’s mind slipped off the thoughts of dinner, right to the highlight of the evening where he’d get to see everything hidden under that uniform. His own uniform got uncomfortably tight in certain areas as his mind ran through a few of his favorite scenarios. Roy was only partially aware of the fact that Maes was calling his name.

“Roy, are you listening?”

“Huh?” Roy mumbled. “Oh, sorry, Hughes, just thinking. It’s someone’s birthday today.” Roy could almost see Hughes thumbing along the calender then knotting his brow when he realized what Roy meant.

“I’m telling you about my beautiful little girl and you’re thinking about that !” Maes snapped, correctly assessing what Roy was thinking about.

“Shouldn’t you be working, Hughes?”

“I was about to ask you the same thing,” Hawkeye said from the doorway.

Startled, Roy swung his feet off the desk and tried to shove under it in a vain attempt to hide certain indiscretions. He managed to nearly ram said indiscretion into his desk and did manage to grate it painfully along the underside of the knee-hole. He sucked in a deep breath to stave off the pain. “Hughes, gotta go. Hawkeye’s glaring.” He hung up the phone. “Sorry, I was busy.”

“Yes, wasting time with Lieutenant Colonel Hughes again,” she said but the heat of her voice wasn’t matched by her eyes. Those hid a smile in them. “Reports for you to fill out, sir. And could you help us? We need to move a file cabinet in the other room.”

“Umm, could it wait a few minutes?” Roy said, trying to hide more of his lap with the desk.

Riza peered over the edge and rolled her eyes at him. “What were you two talking about as if I want to know?”

“I have no idea what Hughes was yakking about. I was thinking about someone’s birthday,” he said in his defense.

“Really, sir, do try to limit the time you waste daydreaming in the office. Sign these then. I’ll go hunt down Breda to move that file cabinet.” Riza slapped the paperwork down, whistled for her dog to follow and left. Roy treated himself to watching what little he could see of her backside in that uniform. The rest he could fill in with his imagination.

Roy regained his questionable self control and signed paperwork until he heard a ruckus in the anteroom. He got up to investigate, suspecting he knew the cause. Sure enough, the flowers he had sent to Riza had arrived and they were gorgeous; pale pink Gypsophila interspersed with red roses and bright pink peonies. Riza was busy wrestling the gift card out of Havoc’s hands.

“What did it say?” Breda asked.

“All I say was ‘secret admirer and something about kisses like flame’,” Havoc replied. “Come on, Hawkeye, give us a look at it.”

“No.”

“Who is he? You can tell us,” Havoc wheedled. Riza placed her hands on his desk and glared at the man. The cigarette drooped on his lip. “Never mind.”

“The flowers really are pretty,” Fuery said, looking up from where he was petting Hayate instead of doing his work.

“They are, Lieutenant,” Mustang said, leaning on the door frame. “Secret admirer?”

“For my birthday, sir.” Hawkeye looked at him, her gaze lingering for a moment but nothing could be read there.

“You made her work on her birthday, boss?” Havoc cast a baleful eye at Mustang.

“Made? She volunteered to,” Roy said sauntering over for a sniff of the flowers he had bought.

“Tomorrow’s the weekend. Three days alone...well let’s just say it doesn’t appeal,” Riza said.

“What alone? Go find the guy who wants to know how hot you kiss.” Havoc gestured to the flowers, his eyes flicking towards Mustang.

Riza shot Havoc another withering glance. “I’ll be fine, thanks.”

“Still, why don’t you take the rest of the day off, Hawkeye. Go home, enjoy your flowers and the candy, take Hayate for a stroll, enjoy yourself. It’s my gift to you. Happy birthday,” Roy said with a smile.

“Well, there goes any hope of you finishing your duties before the weekend.” Riza just shook her head and started packing up to go home.

Roy went back into his office and actually did his work so she’d be happy with him over the weekend. He didn’t want anything to get in the way of them enjoying themselves. He stopped by his apartment after work to change into some rather non-descript clothing. Roy picked up the dessert and the items to make dinner then let himself out the back just in case anyone was watching. This was going to be an amazing night.

A hand brushed Roy’s cheek drawing him out of a pleasant dream. He was vaguely aware of Hayate whining. Riza ran a hand through his hair. “Roy, could you take Hayate for a walk?”

“Hmm, what time is it?”

“Very late. Please. You made me very....relaxed.” She smiled at him, her hair tickling down over his shoulder.

He chuckled, very satisfied with himself. Roy kissed her then swung out of bed, rooting around for his pants. He shoved his feet into his shoes and tugged on his shirt before going into the other room to get Hayate’s leash off the hook. “Come on, boy.”

Roy took the dog out for a walk, thinking this might be reason to get a cat. The streets were deathly quiet as Hayate roamed around inspecting places to go. The wind was cool and Roy could smell the storm brewing. “Hurry up, Hayate. Any place will do! I left a perfectly good nest for this.”

Hayate refused to be hurried. The little dog jumped as thunder cracked and then the sky opened up drenching them in cold rain.

“Damn it, dog! Just pee already!”

By the time Hayate selected the perfect spot to do his business and they made it back to the apartment, Roy was soaked to the bone. Hayate made sure to shake off right on him. Roy tried to walk and tug on his chafing pants at the same time. Riza met him at the door with a thick towel.

“Poor thing.” She sympathetically patted his hair with the towel before surrendering it to him.

Roy stripped off his sopping clothes and hung them over the backs of chairs in the kitchen, standing there naked save his towel. “You need a cat or a dog that will just do his business in a timely fashion.”

“Usually I have to keep Hayate from hosing everything,” she said, taking his hand.

“Maybe it’s me he doesn’t like. I’m soaked.”

“I know.” Riza kissed him. “Come back to bed.” Roy didn’t need more urging. Riza wrapped her body around his when they got back under the covers. “I have to ask about the gift card, Roy.” She snuggled her head against his chest.

“Did you like the flowers?”

“They were beautiful but...do you really think that about the way I kiss?”

Roy rolled so he was on top of her, kissing her for emphasis. “Dear birthday girl, do you know how much time I lose dreaming about your kiss? I might be the Flame Alchemist but you’re the one who makes me burn.”
