Random craving for chocolate (.A')

Aug 25, 2009 17:09

Without further ado here be the fourth entry. Doubt there'll be much time in September so posts will be extra long from now on with four to five bosses per post D; In an attempt to create more coherence and a more ordered structure, I'll be dividing the post into sub-headings.

Boss No.V - Chanagabull
Element: Paralysis | Weakness: Thundaaaa

Yea looks like a catfish / pufferfish, but has the same skeletal structure as Roarudros. I guess its the equivalent of Ganototos / Plesioth since its the only boss that can be fished up from water. It only has three special moves - its lantern ball thingy flashes and causes the dazed status effect; its tail swipe / body has spikes that causes paralysis; it can dig underground and pop out with this vacuum attack, trying to suck players in. Didn't get the chance to record its vacuum attack in this video, but will show it in another later video.

You may notice Roarudros was in that quest too, its random but sometimes quests would show that the area status is "Unstable", which means sometimes a second boss may appear in the map. No idea why I was using a Fire elemental weapon (it's second weakest element), probably another brain fart :/

The CG video illustrates perfectly its nature imo. Funny how its beard is used as bait XD

There wasn't much to say or even annotate about it, but still another more original monster. Its armor is Dynasty Warriors-ish, with the male version being reminiscent of Lubu lol

Naturally its weapons are paralysis element. One cool thing about the sword and shield version of it is that spikes pop out of the shield when you draw out the weapon D;

This is a mix of Kurupekko's parts as well; similar to the SnS spikes pop out of this funky hammer when fully charged.

No spikes from the lance though :/

Boss No.VI - Ragiacrus
Element: Thunder | Weakness: Fire

Alas the 'mascot' boss of MH3. It plays an integral role in the offline story as a rival of sorts to your main character as its existence prevents the villlage's trade ships from going in or out. Of course nobody was able to defeat it until you, the hunter, shows up D; There is a one-time repel quest for it, just like Kushaldora (Wind / Rust Ancient Dragon) in MH2, except that Ragiacrus is way weaker compared to Kushaldora >_> That explains why it has multiple opening cutscenes anyway. And it also has the skeletal structure of Roarudros, clearly not a coincidence that they're all aquatic.

Yes this is the 'monster in a tub of lube', where some of its attacks underwater makes wonder how the frack can it be dodged lol I guess its not that bad with three other people, but in offline mode it can be a pain since you're constantly being targeted (besides Chacha). But even with three other players its still possible to die with high-end gear due to its wide range. The Japanese call it ハメ which generally means in the MH series that you're getting humped by the monster (their attacks are timed so that it hits you the moment you get up from the ground). This happens more often with later bosses, which makes you wonder if they adjusted the monster's attacks so that its timed so perfectly. The frequency isn't that great though when it does occur it is frustrating D;

Ah well here's the quest:

No CG for it :( Guess it got enough screen time in the MH3 OP though lol Really liked the armor and weapon designs (more the weapons than the armor). All so swirly and spikey mmmm.

Funky thunder element weapons ftw.

Stage No.IV - Icelands

Yep its time for another new stage. There are some interesting points in it but overall rather monotonic. Here's the opening cutscene and the walkabout:

Boss No. VII - Dosbagii
Element: Sleep | Weakness: Fire

Well like Dosjagii it is not that hard, though it has more HP. Its sleep breath used by it and its minions are rather annoying especially when fighting another boss though lol Nevertheless it definitely has a stronger attack / defense power.

Only weapon I did not use yet so far was the hammer (oh and bowgun) so decided to use that. Underestimated Dosbagii however so the quest took longer than expected, and of course my lousiness at using the hammer also made it worse. But here's the battle anyway:

Its equipment is basically a color palette swap of Dosjagii:

Oh and the weapons are sleep element, which nobody uses lol But it probably has the potential to offer up different strategies in boss battles.

Boss No.VIII - Giginebra
Element: Poison | Weakness: Fire

Well that was fast lol Hmmm Giginebra is basically the equivalent of a Furufuru / Khezu, perhaps its the female version because it literally lays eggs or poison 'bombs' during battle. In my opinion its way cooler than Furufuru in terms of what it can do but its better to see for yourself lol Come to think of it, it seems to have a fifth skeletal structure, although it can be said to be merely a hybrid of Kurupekko's. Will just post the OP and Battle in succession.

Yea they definitely upped the ante in terms of creepiness for this boss lol Had difficulty differentiating its head and tail at first D; Also the item description of its mouth says it shares similar traits to the mouth of Furufuru / Khezu, which lives in a separate continent. Guess that suggests that MH3 is simply situated in a different place. Anyway, the armor is also in same creepy style, with the male armor making the player look like a vampire XD

Yep the weapons are poison element. Was hoping that the grey spongey-looking bulging parts on the shield (which looks like its poison sacs that glow in the dark) would glow purple in the dark but they don't >:(

Like the gun the most because the barrel has the mouth of a Gigi lol

Omake:

Going off-topic, decided to mess around with Chacha showing its various actions and uses in the field while introducing some new Bowgun bullets underwater.

Stage No.V - Volcano

Nope that was simply a 'breather' video lol now back on-topic, here's the 'last' stage of the bunch. There's more but these are the basic five. It's surprising how easy it is to identify the secret shortcuts in MH3 lol unlike MH2 where some are more discreet (have to climb down a well etc). Are they fine-tuning for casual gamers? I hope not. But the icons that pop up when you are near a mining point is an indication I guess, meh.

For better or for worse, here's the final walkabout video:

Boss No.IX & X - Rioleia / Rathian & Rioelsu / Rathalos aka The 'Couple'
Element: Fire / Poison | Weakness: Dragon / Thunder

Last but not least for this entry is the classic wyvern couple that is present in all the MHs. Won't annotate the quest video of them because I doubt its necessary lol Ah well gonna post the opening cutscenes of them first:

They're said to be masters of land (Rathian, the green female wyvern) and sky (Rathalos, the red male wyvern). To be honest I have never noticed their elvish ears till now lol how weird and out of place they look. Evolved Elvaans much!? Capcom wasn't shitting this time when they said that Rathalos is the master of sky though, you may have noticed that monsters with wings (well Kurupekko only so far) can hover above the ground, well Rathalos is a hover-happy bloody bastard D; It gets rather annoying since its hard to hit him and he has this awful backstep+breath attack move too. One of my least favourite for sure, not sure if I cut out all the annoying hovering bits in the quest video but you may be able to see what I mean:

Here's their equipment (Rathian first). Don't think they've changed much of its design but the Rathalos armor still looks awesome.

Like how the back part of the waistcoat mimics the back / tail of Rathalos :3

Another funkily designed weapon.

Machine gun! The barrel doesn't rotate when you fire bullets though :s

That is all.
