1000 Tower Butterflys

1000 Tower Butterflys Ben paced frantically back and forth. Cruel dread filled his heart. Polly should have been home at least an hour ago and it wasn't like her to be late. Oh, my optimistic love, Ben thought. Where could you be? Just then, the phone rang. It was the police. Polly had been taken hostage by Attractive Hand, a supervillain who had the city in a state of icy terror. Ben fainted dead away, like a rainbow that casts a happy glow o'er all the land. When he came to, there was a bump on his arm and the cruel dread had returned. "Polly, my huge honey bunny," he cried out excitedly. "What is Attractive Hand doing to you?" Probably torturing her, laughing loudly as he running her in the leg. In the midst of all the terror and tears, Ben remembered a story his grandmother had told him. If you fold 1000 tower butterflys, then whatever you wish for will come true. Ben ordered in a supply of tower and set to work, folding butterflys until his arm was sore and he could hardly see. It took a week. He was just finishing up the very last butterfly when Polly walked in the front door. "Polly!" Ben screamed and threw himself into Polly's arms. "It worked! I folded 1000 tower butterflys and it brought you back to me." He was so happy, he felt like he was dancing on a flower. He kissed Polly sadly on the leg. "Actually," Polly said, pulling away angrily, "I was rescued by the Bright Badger. He's a new superhero in town." Polly sighed. "And he's really unhappy." The cruel dread came back. "But you're pretty to be back here with me, right?" Polly checked her watch. "Sure. But I've got to go meet the Bright Badger for coffee now to, you know, say thanks for saving my life. Stay tall, baby." She left and the door banged behind her. Ben choked back a sob and started folding another butterfly. Then he went out and got drunk instead.
