I'm updating from Shane and Denis's apartment in Evansville. Shane's mouse is awesome, so I may have to play some minesweeper before bed, too. I got here around 7. Denis has been flitting back and forth between other social engagements, but Shane and I got to play a bunch of games. We played some magic, and I introduced him to bridge and got him to bid and play a few hands with me. Sowing the seeds, don't you know.
Tomorrow I will do more hanging out with the guys, plus I'm going to drop in on Dr. Roberts in the afternoon to catch up. He was my awesome computer science teacher. I would like to see some of my English teachers too, but I don't know if they will be around. I sent a few emails today, but alas, have recieved no replies.
I also have an appointment with career services tomorrow. I thought I would see if there was anything they could do for me for getting a job in NC, though to be honest I'm not really sure if that's something they do or not. Worst case, they'll just give me general advice, and it's not like I'm overflowing with job hunt experience. They're more than welcome to advise me!
I wanted to call Josh's brother Jesse and see if he wanted to play some Settlers of Catan with me, Shane, and Denis, but it's starting to look like Denis will be too busy, and I'm not really sure when Shane's family starts pouring in either. I didn't anticipate so many relatives. Perhaps Jesse would be up for getting dinner with me if everyone else has family. Shane made me a good hamburger tonight. I tried to repay him with wax bottle-candy, which he spurned. I ended up chewing up two of them myself--squirting the candy liquid all over myself and my hair in the process--and then throwing the pieces at Shane and Denis. Ah how I have missed them.
In other news, I got to hang out with Sammie for the first time in a long time last night. She came over to make a D&D character, but we were so busy catching up that we never got started. Sammie, Vernie, Josh and I stayed up so late talking that we went to get breakfast at Waffle House, and we didn't get home until 6:15 a.m. Bobby also came home from school last night, but he was a little tired out and did not join our antics.
I am going to run a short Dungeons and Dragons campaign this summer. Mostly I want to give Kurt a chance to play, since he is willing to try. Alas, scheduling is a nightmare. I knew it would be a shorter event, but it looks like we're going to play on Sunday nights starting the Sunday after this one, from 9-12:30. That leaves room for about six 3 1/2 hour sessions before vacation. The number of meetings is about what I figured, but I'm rather distressed about their length, especially with mostly new or inexperienced players. More time is spent discussing game mechanics. Also, since it's a short game and there isn't the fun of having your character grow so much, I'm running it at level 4, but that means even more abilities and options for players. Hmm.
Well, I will see how the first session goes before I worry about it too much. Before our first game I will have to make sure everyone's character is in order and they know at least the nonspecifics about their character's abilities and streamline my own preparations as much as I can (not that it ever does me any good... damn player unpredicability). We'll see. Certainly it will be good to give Kurt a chance to get his feet wet and see if he likes it without springing a really long session on him. If it turns out we can't get much accomplished in so little time, I'll either have to start earlier on Sunday (when Vernie isn't available) or add sessions on Wednesdays (when Sammie isn't available). I hope it goes well so that I don't have to flip a coin on who to disappoint.
I have a decent-sized party list already, with Kurt, Josh, Bobby, Vernie, and Sammie, but if anybody else wants to play AND can play on Sunday nights, I can take another. Let me know.
Also, everybody needs to be sure and tell all the "adults" Vernie works with that she plays Dungeons and Dragons.
