I read it right after it was released. It was so-so (like the last few). Some exciting bits and some really freaking-obnoxious-repetitive-preachy bits. Typical Goodkind.

Thanks for your opinion. Interesting. Although I haven't read it yet, I did see a lot of comments from others that said it was only so-so. What exactly do you mean, "preachy" bits? Is it also true that it drags on in the beginning? Sigh, I guess, I will just have to start reading it now. I should not. It is supposed to be a Christmas gift ...
anyway, please elaborate on "preachy" :) - and obnoxious!

Y'know, freedom's amazing but you got to fight for it to deserve it, yada, yada, yada, Jagang and the Order are dangerous for their effed up ideals, blah, blah, Richard is all that is Good and Glorious, da-de-da-- the same long-winded speeches, in short, that he's been repeating since book 6. If it hasn't irritated you yet you probably won't have a problem with it in this book.

But Kahlan and I are homies and I loved every scene with her in it.

I don't really remember the beginning but there were bits that dragged throughout.
