And let me assure you, this is not the first time Walton's ass has been mentioned in the commentaries.
It's one of those things you can count on in every commentary featuring any of the strike team members. Walton's ass and/or teeth will be mentioned. Walton will be referred to as a method actor and/or redneck. Walton will compliment the music of the show. Michael Chiklis will bring up the authenticity of the show using "real looking" actors. Michael Chiklis will always interrupt whatever happens to be the topic of conversation at the moment to point out his daughter Autumn. Michael Chiklis will tell the story of the first time he pushed Michael Jace and he did not move cause "he's like a wall". Michael will rag on some unfortunate guest actor for having bad breath or not being good at delivering his lines. Kenny and Walton will tell everyone how they used to live together. Kenny Johnson will refer to at least 3 scenes as "brilliant". Someone will bring up how huge Kenny Johnson is and how he used to be an arm wrestler. And they will talk about how in their heads they get right before filming a scene where they break down a door. Seriously though they talk about the same stuff over and over and it's great every time. XD
Re-reading that it's clear to me that I have a problem and perhaps need to put The Shield DVDs down. lol
Holy shit you have done your research! XD Yeaaaaaaaaaaah lol the Autumn Chiklis thing gets a liiitle grating after the tenth time or so (I mean, I get where he's coming from, but still!). I've definitely notice a lot of those recurring themes.
Are there any commentary bits you like best? Because I'm sure I've missed some of the good stuff (I get a bit ADD-ish with this sorta thing and sometimes skip ahead and don't pay full attention).
ALSO ONCE YOU HAVE SEASON 6 PLZ REPORT. I'm very curious about the commentaries and deleted scenes 'cause it's a big season for Shane, and I have no clue why my boxset doesn't include anything but some basic extras there. -_-
I've listened to every commentary at least once. Except of course the Walton ones which I pop in much more often. It kind of annoys me when they get groups of 5 or 6 people doing them though cause everyone starts interrupting and talking over each other. My favorite ones are the ones with just the actors. It seems like if there's a writer or director present they tend to try and moderate and feel the need to continuously ask questions to everyone when I'd rather them just talk about what's going on in the episode.
As for season 6 I just got Season 6 in the mail last week. There's 2 Walton commentaries. One is with Michael Chiklis, Michael Jace, David Marciano, and Glen Marzarra on the episode Haunts, which is the one where Shane gets beaten up for sleeping with that young black girl. That one's pretty good. Chicklis teases Walton about how he likes to show his ass and torso again in that one. The other is with Shawn Ryan and Frank Darabont on the episode Chasing Ghosts, the one where Vic finds out Shane killed Lem. That one sucks because 90% of it is Shawn Ryan kissing Frank Darabont's ass cause he's a big movie director who did the show. There is one cute part in that one though where Shawn says something about Shane's shirt and Walton says that he's been accused of being gay so many times because of his wardrobe on the show. XD But mostly it's Shawn Ryan fanboying over Frank Darabont and Walton not getting the opportunity to say much.
I don't remember any major Shane deleted scenes. In fact there doesn't really seem to be too many scenes revolving around Shane on any of the seasons. A few but not as many as like Dutch and Claudette or Vic. I think that's good though cause it means they probably used most of Walton's stuff.
You said your set had basic extras so I don't know if you had the 3 behind the scenes features on yours. The screen cap I posted on my twitter and featured in this icon is from one of the behind the scenes features from the 6th season.
Just got the 7th Season in the mail today. Looking forward to getting into the special features on that one. Not sure I'm ready to ride the actual emotional roller coaster of re-watching the episodes yet though.
I really wish they did more commentaries with the Strike Team guys. I think the one writer commentary that did work for me was when it was all writers (at the end of season 1, I think), not an unholy mix of writers and actors. xD And I couldn't care less about the technical aspects, so when they start to go into detail about that I tune riiight out.
Heh, oh man, that ep, least sexy ass display EVER. Dude looked like he'd gone through a meatgrinder. Haaaate the big name asskissing (Glenn Close, Michael Mann... it's not like they made such a priceless contribution to the show, jfc). And talking over Walton is inexcusable! rofl, poor Walton, taking the heat for Shane's gay shirts. I love how Shane was the butt of every single gay joke on the show.
They were trying to tell us something, I just know it.
Yeah, I don't recall many Shane deleted scenes either. Only noteworthy one is him being picked up as a male hustler, but that's just short comic relief.
I think I have the 3 features of season 6, but I probably haven't checked them out yet, 'cause I don't recall seeing Cletus Van Damme in action... ahh season 7. Don't watch it it's eeevil. There are a few Walton commentaries there, plus in the main behind the scenes feature, he gets a lot of the spotlight. And he cries. *hugs him*
Hey, can you do me a favor? I can't access this video 'cause of regional bullshit. You mind checking it out and letting me know if it's anything interesting?
Aw that sucks about the regional thing. That sucks when sites do that.
Walton talks about the backstory of Stans... you know the one they never mention in the movie. The whole he went off his meds and had a bad weekend and fancies himself a celebrity. Did you know Stans first name was Walter? I didn't. lol. Then he talks about how he's the kind of actor who enjoys the process (ie. method) and how for him it doesn't begin with action or end with cut and he likes to stay in the headspace of the character. And talks about what it was like to basically be scared all the time for 4 months. Kinda of fun to watch but nothing he hasn't mentioned before in other things.
Thanks! ^_^ Heh, yeah, I know about the Walter thing (think he mentioned it in the big Collider interview a while back). Yeah, it's kinda ridiculous they failed to mention the backstories in the movie. Have you seen it yet?
Yeah I downloaded it and watched it a few night ago. Kinda glad I didn't pay to go see it. Walton was great in it and the movie itself wasn't bad (although I must admit I stopped watching it when Stans bit it if only cause the video was pretty sucky and not worth watching if not for Walton) not worth $10 at the theater though. I'll wait for the DVD.
Haha, yeah, I stopped watching after spine!rip, too (though I skimmed a little later). I really hope they've got some Stans-centric deleted scenes (other than the hitting on Isabelle one), 'cause there so wasn't enough of him in the movie!
Noland was pretty blatant in his advances. He was all checking him out! Stans/Mombasa is cute though, in a 'you're an asshole I hatechu gonna save your life anyway' kinda way. And Stans actually objected to Royce sacrificing his new buddy! I love how it's the second time that a Walton character is like 'o noes he's dead!' and another character is like '...but you were gonna kill him' and he's like WELL THAT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
