It is a statistical issue. The seat needs to be down more than it needs to be up so it should stay down the majority of the time.

It is also a hygiene issue. Girls do not need to touch a toilet seat in their everyday use of it. The person who touches it (the man) to put it up, should touch it to put it down as his hands are already dirty. You could argue that one's hands are always dirty after using the toilet and that we all have to wash them no matter what, but there is a difference between one's own dirt and general dirt, the latter of which is on the seat.

Also, it's impolite for guests to be greeted by a toilet seat up. They are at best ugly, and at worst, dirty, when they are up. The guest is also then required to touch the seat to sit down.

Some argue (my mother) that EVERYONE should put down the seat AND the lid, every time. When a toilet is flushed some of the water will spray out onto the walls or floor, even if it is mostly invisible. We all know this from when we have flushed while still sitting as a kid. Putting the lid down before flushing every time is actually the most hygenic thing to do.

FURTHER there is NO ACTUAL NEED for men to put up the seat. Many men in Europe sit down to pee, which is much more civilised. If you men insist on such laziness, which is also more dirty due to your poor aim, then you can deal with the god damned bloody seat.

I have put a lot of thought into this, as you can see.

(and thanks ;> )

Sure.

YOU MEN HAVE NO COMEBACK FOR THESE CONSIDERED REASONS!

Unfortunately, the boy in question refuses to see sense but says he'll try and do it because it makes me happy, not because he agrees with me.

However, I'll take what I can get on this issue.
