I think, in the recent days, that Obama has been slowly waking up to the fact that sunshine, roses, smiles, and tea hot dog invites don't work well as foreign policy between the increasing violence in Iran and the rapidly escalating tensions between us and North Korea. It seemed, particularly in the last press conference, that he was uncomfortable to have to take a slightly more solid stance, especially in reference to specific questions asked by the Press Corps.
Disagree with him as much as you may (and I'll probably be inclined to agree with you on many aspects), but Former President Bush was correct when he labeled Iran and NK as the "Axis of Evil."
I think "Insanity" would do well there, as well.
If you're ambivalent towards politics and world events, I suggest you take an interest in this:
North Korea Threatens US; World Anticipates Missile SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.
Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.
The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.
The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.
Are we seriously going to sit by silently and wait to SEE if he actually goes through with his threat? Kim Jong Mentally-Ill has given us NO REASON whatsoever to doubt him. While it is far more feesible for the U.S. to wipe NK off the map and therein lies the greatest insanity, 1) that's entirely undesirable and 2) is the President seriously willing to let Americans die first before doing anything?
I've seen nothing of his response to this yet. In fact, I've seen nothing of the UN's response to this yet. This is THEIR JOB. Not that they're, you know, competent of doing anything. -Well, you know, minus calling for a world ban on plastic bags. Because that's important stuff unlike, oh... say genocide in other nations.
I'm not advocating war because those people have no control over their despotic leader... but at the same time, it's really hard to imagine this being settled diplomatically at this point. He is literally insane.
I have no doubt that, providing the President has allowed, we have people over there now. I have the utmost faith in our military, but if this escalates, if any action has to be taken, we're gonna be in another war.
