london is super!!

i really like london.
the tube is fun, the announcer voice is eerie, and the markets are brilliant. the borough market today was just stunning, i ate so many free samples of luscious items and bought some marmalade set for my dad and flavoured fruit balsamic vinegar syrup, a divine slice of belgian chocolate torte, creamy tzatziki with rosemary potato onion bread and gigantic raspberries. to top it all off i had the most dreamy fairy food ever: lavender honey ice cream from scotland. um.... wow. wow.
camden market yesterday was one of those moments where i wished i could transport friends from back home to my exact location. everyone i know would have found something they wanted in this awesome punky place with overpriced huge selections of tights and jewelry and clothing. i had to buy a green polka dot dress, magenta ballet flats, black skeleton earrings which i've wanted for years, skull scarves and more. i would have gotten tights to add to my already-too-large collection but at nine pounds each it was steep. the dollar to the pound conversion is harsh! london is very expensive, but so lovely.
i have visited the tate modern twice. a delectable exhibit on dali and film, showcasing viewings of his 7 minute disney film and 'un chien andalou' and 'l'age d'or' and hitchcock's 'spellbound' because he was involved with the creation of all of them. i could easily spend days returning back there to watch them and examine the paintings closely. until you see dali's works in person, it's hard to realize the minute precision of brush strokes and the ultimate detail in every painting, in every background scene.
i had to break down and buy the book about his moustache.
the national gallery required so much more than three hours to get through, but that's all i had. i found some exquisite paintings there, including works i have studied throughout the years in art history classes. it's always a nice smile bringer to see these works in person after viewing them only on slides and in black and white textbooks; after having written full papers on them and debating their meaning, to see them in the canvas flesh.

okay, well i had a wonderful dinner with the family i'm staying with and am drunk on bordeaux wine and fruit liquors so goodbye!!!
