Hi all! Nice to be back. Here's a snippet to start us off.

Title: Contested Histories
Rating: G
Prompt: for fantas_magoria episode What’s My Line I: prompt: some backstory for the Order of Taraka

The Order of Taraka predates the written word. Its history is handed down through generations of assassins.

We know Taraka was a mystic, holy and inspired. He grouped together the greatest, most destructive minds of his day and set them to cleanse the earth of the weak, foolish and unprepared. His order is a closed brotherhood. Entry is by ordeal, and by successful completion of murderous tasks. Tarakan acolytes pay for failure with their lives, sacrificed on the altar of T.

We are now recruiting brutal conscienceless contract-killers in your area. If you or a friend/family member would like to find out more, contact 0800-ETERNAL DAMNATION for an informal discussion of your options.

Taraka apparently lived in the fourth century BC. We know little about him, but his work lives on. His order is a feared, effective fighting force of assassins and bounty hunters, notoriously thorough and dedicated. To be avoided.

Taraka was a merchant whose business collapsed. He needed ready cash, and set up a small mercenary troupe in Hungary around 1325. Nothing fancy, just stab and slash. Their simple motto, ‘We get the job done’, earned them a reputation for reliability among their clients. They cultivated an air of antiquity. By 1450, they were the go-to bounty hunters in central Europe. They remain major players in the death-for-hire business.

Or is it..?
