A/N: This is all gamiila's fault, originally for still_grrr.

“...Garcia, eaten by wolves, ‘89. Fontaine, neck trauma, ‘90. Morgan, neck trauma, ‘94. Flutie, eaten by hyenas ‘97. Snyder, eaten by a snake, ‘99. And/or city official, depending on how you classify. It’s a toughie, stats-wise”

“I see. And after Snyder?”

“Well, that would be you. If you take the job, Mr Wood. Can I call you Robin?”

“I think you better, if you’re going to persuade me to take a job where the Principal has the life expectancy of a Spinal Tap drummer.”

“Oh, let’s not exaggerate. Principals have a pretty long life expectancy. Compared with the janitors, anyway.”

Prompt Broken mirror

There's still nothing in the mirror.

He doesn't know why he expected it. But he wanted a sign. That he was truly different. That the world could tell. Something more than the constant roar in his mind, of guilt pain anguish memories remorse violence can't-take-it-back-

Something external. He wanted to look in the mirror, look himself in the eye, say, "You did it. You went and got what she deserved. You can go back to her."

But there's nothing. He knows now. He's never going to be better enough for her. Always a bad, bad man. The roar is rising in his mind again. He smashes the non-reflection that tells him what he is. He can't bear the nothingness.

As his mind fills with remembered blood, he finds a piece of broken glass large enough for the task. He'll cut out the heart that belongs to her, and then she'll know that he understands. That there's nothing worthy of her here.

Title: Where the Truth Lies
Rating: PG
Setting: Round about Lessons.
Prompts: Desert and oasis

If a bad man walks across an endless dry desert-

- where no birds sing and no trees grow and there isn't a drop to drink -

(Yet he does not die - because he is already dead)-

If such a man makes such a walk, and he reaches the other side, and knows he has reached it and understands in his very soul (yes, he has such a thing) that he has come home-

- though he has no home and what home he once had he destroyed, pulled down the pillars of his unhallowed temple upon his head when he hurt the girl (and hurting her led to his exile in the desert, his just dessert) -

If such a man crosses the desert and comes to his home-that-is-not-home, and sees the girl he hurt and knows she is everything he needs-

If such a man is bad, can he not drink her? Is she not his oasis in the desert, slaking eternal thirst?

But if he drinks her, is he not bad? If he does not drink her, is he therefore good? Can he be saved by not drinking, when he thirsts so badly?

He is mad. This much he knows.

She can save him. This he also knows. But he does not know where his salvation lies, except that it must be with her.
