I think he might be looking to the Scoobies as a model for how folks with souls are supposed to behave (since Angel still isn't sure about that, a lot of the time) - and they don't do mourning for unsouled creatures. (Jesse who?)
And yeah, Angel(us)/Darla - all about the delicious complications, yay.
I really love how you've protrayed the oh-so-complicated nature of Angel's feelings for Darla, and the fact that he must always remember her at that spot in the Bronze.
I do find the Angel(us)/Darla pairing quite compelling in its complexity and diversity over the centuries - rather fun to dig for implications, more than canon gives us.
And surely it's not unreasonable to think that Angel might twitch every time he passes that spot at the Bronze. Not proper ghost-haunting, exactly - but some kind of twitching, yes.

That just wrenched me, you know. Like he's being deliberately vicious with himself. (Maybe on her behalf?)
Ah, but here he is, turning it back on her:
Damn you, Darla - don't you know ghosts are supposed to be cold?
God! Their relationship is so deliciously complicated! Thanks for sharing.
