Prompt: for Gingerbread prompt 3 at fantas_magoria: tell us about burning Giles’s books. Or, as it turns out, not.
Burning books is barbarism.
Burning my books could imperil the world.
So I’m perfectly justified in using a little conjuration on civilians, am I not? While this charming chap waves his weapon and talks tough about the occult, my fingers seek out the emergency-spell drawer. It’s a tiny glamour - I could hardly manage greater power even with more time and resource.
Buffy half-escapes the glamour, comes too close to truth, but fortunately Snyder and the MOO brigade never spot that instead of Blood Rites and Sacrifices and allied texts, they are in fact burning a dictionary and My Friend Flicka.

Written after reading antennapedia’s new fic on Giles the librarian: Welcome to the Hellmouth. Because clearly Giles needed to keep his books. Set later in season 3, but I am sneaking in a rec all the same!
