Episode in Focus: Gingerbread

Mar 21, 2010 17:55

Next week is Gingerbread week!

Thanks for all your Amends-based creativity - it’s been another great week! But we’re moving right along! Once it is Monday 22 March your time, join us in posting your art, fic, recs, meta, vids and anything else you want to share with fandom that focuses on Gingerbread, one of several fairy-tale themed episodes in BtVS. This one told us the truth about Hansel and Gretel, introduced Sheila Rosenberg, gave MOO! to the world, and, perhaps most famously of all, brought us Amy the Rat.

Some prompts to tempt your muse: optional as always

1. Quote to Remember:
Cordelia: "Things are way out of control, Giles. First the thing at school, and then my mom confiscates all of my black clothes and scented candles. I came over here to tell Buffy to stop this craziness and found you all unconscious... again. How many times have you been knocked out, anyway? I swear, one of these times, you're gonna wake up in a coma."

2. Theme to Explore: Why we fight?
We hear a lot this episode about Buffy’s mission:

Joyce: But is it really? I mean, you patrol, you slay... Evil pops up, you undo it. A-a-and that's great! But is Sunnydale getting any better? Are they running out of vampires?
Buffy: I don't think that you run out of...
Joyce: It's not your fault. You don't have a plan. You just react to things. I-i-it's bound to be kind of fruitless.

And later...
Angel: I know it's important to keep fighting and I learned that from you.
Buffy: But we never --
Angel: We never win.
Buffy: Not completely.
Angel: We never will. That's not why we fight. We do it 'cause there's things worth fighting for. Those kids. Their parents.
Buffy: Right. Their parents.

3. Scenes We Didn’t See: the perils of book burning
Giles: They're confiscating my books.
Buffy: Giles, we need those books.
Giles: Believe me, I tried to tell that to the nice man with the big gun.

Tell us about the loss of Giles’s books. What did he say to the man with the gun? Did the Scoobies ever face a crisis they couldn’t resolve because the books were lost?

Running late? Don't forget, there’s still time to post more entries for our previous Episode in Focus, Amends. You have another week's grace, even if it’s not the focus from Monday!

We’ll be back with a flash prompt for Gingerbread on Thursday. The week after will be a catch-up week for season 3 so far - so we’ll all have time to catch our breath!

Affiliate news: this week at still_grrr the prompt is The Oscars 1980s-present day. You have until Thursday!
