Angel says “Wanna bite before we kill her?”
And Xander knows. Just knows. Never trust a vampire. This is his last minute of breathing. His rumpled shirt and Angel’s sleeve beyond, all he can see from this awkward neck-exposed position, that’s going to be his last visual memory. There will be fangs. Pain, presumably. Maybe the chance to give up his warm human life and join the undead legions. He’ll find out about death and dying. Discover what Jesse felt, at the end.
He remains frozen and waiting while the vampires bicker; and doesn’t believe his reprieve when it comes.
