So, I was moved by
themegalosaurus' ficlet coda to 11.02:
http://themegalosaurus.livejournal.com/8337.html and it stirred up questions I often have about what show's intentions are with Dean. So I wondered what other people think, about that remark he made, and about Dean's post purgatory character in general. It seems to me that show went to the trouble of showing the bunker still littered with the carnage of Dean's fight with the Stynes, his murder of the kid, and Sam's attempts to clean it all up. They're not overly concerned with continuity when it doesn't suit them so it seems to me they deliberately showed us that and had Dean comment on it for a reason. So what point do people think they're making:
a/ Dean doesn't have the MOC as an excuse now, so his glib comment is an indication of his actual character, and show wants the audience to recognize that, contrary to Sam's tenaciously held belief, Dean is not a good person.
b/ Dean is a good person but his comment was a clue that he is still under the influence of the MOC by virtue of being enthralled to the Darkness/Amara.
c/ It was a clue that Dean is secretly soulless. He was Amara's first snack.
d/ The comment wasn't as glib as it sounded. It was actually Dean's awkward way of saying "I wish you hadn't had to clean this up."
e/ There was no point. It was just a throw away gag.
f/ Who cares about authorial intention any more? Haven't you heard of Postmodernism?
g/ Other.
