SPN warnings question

Jul 14, 2015 10:31

Does anyone think angst is something that needs to be warned for? Some comms include it in their tags but I figure if you watch the show, you know what to expect, right? O_O

I don't think it's ever required, but if the story is really angsty through a large portion of it, a "warning" wouldn't hurt. There are some stories by other authors I've read that had that warning, but utterly failed to live up to the warning. ;-) I could clearly see the author trying to evoke that feeling, but not very successfully. Then there have been other authors where I felt like I was a teenager again - for hours of reading - so those definitely lived up to it the warning. LOL Sometimes if I'm in a good mood I'll put off reading angsty or depressing stories until I'm in that frame of mind. But you're right, I pretty much expect angsty in this verse. :-)

That's what I figured. I've had a fit of adding content advice for individual scenes of the serial, but I started getting silly about it (as I'm afraid I'm inclined to do :P) and I think need to rein myself in again. I think a general "angst and plenty of it" type comment in the master posts will cover it :P

Sometimes its just for the tags. So angst hoors like myself can easily find their flavor. Though, this is the fandom of ANGST.

That's kind or what I had in mind when I started re-reading the serial this week, and I thought it would be a good idea to include content advice for each scene so people would know what they're getting. But I got totally carried away with detailed angst descriptions so in the end, I thought: this is getting very very silly. I think a general "angst and plenty of it" type comment in the master post will be sufficient :P I seem to have an extreme personality type where I either don't do things, or I totally overdo them!

"angst and plenty of it"

*laughs* I think that puts it very well.

As a general rule I've never posted an Angst Warning on my SPN fics, because the nature of the show is angsty. However, I've posted it on things like Doctor Who, Life on Mars Harry Potter, because they don't 'live' in that general area of the world falling down every five seconds.

There are certain aspects of 'Angst' I will warn for, Character Death, Severe Hurt/Comfort, etc etc, but Angst itself, not generally.

Dunno, that Harry Potter was pretty angsty . . . at least from book 4 on, anyway.

Thanks for the feedback :)

LOL true, but as a general rule, in the HP universe, there's a great deal of hope, in SPN, it's less hope more hope for hope!

In this fandom, with Sam'n'Dean no, you don't have to warn for angst. It's kind of the default setting.
It's not a *good* Sam'n'Dean story if there's no angsting, so there!

I am a sucker for a hot love scene, preferably with switching, at the end though! :P

I aim for a judicious sprinkling of hot love scenes, with roles alternating in keeping with dramatic requiremment :P
