Yesterday (Tuesday, 23 March) I taxied to 3737 Market Street for my third p.t. meeting with Ben. One of the ways p.t. with Ben is different from any other therapist I've had...and they have been many, over the years...is that Ben always starts out the session with a long conversation about how I've done this week and what I want to work on more. Last week I walked the least on Monday (210 steps, per my cell phone), the most on Saturday: 679 steps. Saturday's total was achieved only by walking up and down, down and up
the corridor on the 8th floor. Bor-ring.
One of the issues I discussed with Ben was, indeed, where I walk. It has been months since I walked outside other than to take my recycles to the recycle dumpster or to get to or from a car. Both of those excursions are a matter of a few steps, barely worth counting. I told Ben about my fear of walking outside and agreed that as soon as I got dressed, I would immediately circumnavigate the North Building. That would be an outdoor version of my hallway, with no streets to cross, not even a curb cut to go up or down.
For a start on the week, I figured that, between getting to and from 3737 Market Street and the walking I did under Ben's eye, I had gotten in my Tuesday quota of walking, including walking outdoors. I pretty much relaxed the rest of the day, ending up with an embarrassing total of 194 steps. I'm sure that's an under count; my cell phone only counts steps if I step down firmly. Still it is a good measurement of my relative (in)activity. My goal for this week: 1,000 steps at least once.
Today I was saved from going out and walking at least one lap around my building by rain:
Certainly no one, including Ben, would expect me to go walkies in this kind of weather, right? That means I'm back out in the hall because, as of 3:45 p.m. I only have 256 steps in.
I hand-washed some masks. One I found lying in the driveway next to my building, two the dry cleaner owner gave me at the beginning of the pandemic (now she sells them), and one my daughter-in-law Olga made for me. I found that if I machine wash them, they may shrink and shrink unevenly, so...into the wash basin they go.
My usual yummy breakfast. The flakes are Nature's Path and they are so crispy, I've thought of using them to dip into salsa. FanSee
