3 January 2019: New Year Firsts

Jan 03, 2019 23:10

For the first time this year:

1.) I went outside. That's pretty pathetic.

2.) Went out to lunch. I went with my ex-brother-in-law, Jay. He brought my sister Debbie over, they picked me up, and we went to Urban Farmer for lunch. We had a pleasant lunch, but I thought the selection of foods and their preparation felt somewhat hotel-y, although I don't know whether the restaurant is linked to a hotel or not. Anyway, I thought the dishes they offered were cautious, aimed not to offend or even to challenge. Ambiance and service were both fine, however.

3.) Booked my trip to Ft. Lauderdale and Raliegh, North Carolina. That only took two days and multiple tries.

4.) In the course of booking my trip, I discovered some bogus transactions on my credit card. Chase declined all of them and froze my card. I should have a new card sometime next week.

5.) I had my first manicure in 2019. The shop in the basement of my building is called Pretoria which I think is an odd name for a beauty shop. The owner is, an employee told me, mad for diamonds.

6.) I cooked my first batch of chili for the year which was also the first batch of chili cooked in this apartment. (I moved in on 14 August.) I'll have chili for dinner tomorrow and divide the rest into small batches for the freezer.

While not a first, I did do my four little exercises again today after I got home from lunch: got down on my mat, went from kneeling on the mat to lying on my back, did my stretch, and got back up off the mat. The only one of those exercises that is easy for me is the stretch. I am really good at lying on my back for five minutes, with my knees bent, my arms extended straight out from my shoulders, and my hands turned palms up. Getting up off the floor is downright scary, but I'm getting better at it, even after only four reps. FanSee
