An Almost Perfect Month

Aug 24, 2016 21:31

On the 24th of July I realized there had been much too long a gap between my posts, and I resolved to get back on track: I would post every day for a month, starting with my July 24 post and ending on August 23. Then...opps! I failed to post on August 16th. I extended my month by one day...to today, August 24th...and decided my mission was accomplished. (Hey, it's my mission, and I get to set the rules.)

What I learned over my month:
1.) I wrote about some topics that were important to me but that I would not usually have written up; for instance, the post I made about my new, water-saving laundry unit. Putting together this sort of post was/is a big plus for me.

2.) Writing every day also meant that some important events, like Sylvia's funeral, got documented which otherwise would have slipped through the cracks. I was absolutely beat by the time I got home that night and would have happily fallen into bed without putting fingers to keys. Perhaps I would have written it up later...indeed, I did amplify my write up the next day...but there's no guarantee. I am so glad I captured this milestone in writing.

3.) In some cases, I grew desperate for a topic. August 11th's post ended up sounding like an advertisement for Zenni Optical; other posts were the drivel I promised at the beginning.

4.) Writing every day made me fall behind in the other things I do on LJ. I am so far behind in responding to comments that it's embarrassing. (I will get back to you all. I promise.) I read my F-list daily but many were the posts that I promised myself I'd comment on later; then later never came. I shall do my best to rectify this lapse. I know you all need my input on how to lead your lives, and I am determined to provide it. Of course, you will probably go on leading your lives, making it difficult for me to catch up...we'll see how successful I am.

My conclusion: I needed something to shake me out of my LJ lethargy, but a month of posts was excessive. Two weeks or half a month would have been sufficient. I shall endeavor to keep lessons #1 - 4 in mind going forward and post at least four to five times a week. However, when I really have nothing to say, I will shut up. FanSee
