Cleaning Up

Oy. It's been too long since I posted, much too long: eleven days. What is my problem? It's not because I am crazy busy.

Le sigh.

Anyway...John and Pam rallied the clan last Wednesday in honor of my birthday: me and Samantha; Alan and his latest girl friend, Olga; Debbie; and Ryan and Jill. If you can't visualize this cast of characters, I'm sorry: no pictures. I had my camera with me but did not whip it out, not even to capture the very excellent tacos they served.

Oddly enough, I did remember to take a picture of the cake, a very appropriate one for an October birthday:

Although they are difficult to see...extremely difficult...there are 78 candles squished onto the cake, which was as delicious as it is good looking.

From Samantha I got a Temple University mug:

I am, in fact, a Temple alumna, class of '78.

My sister, Debbie, gave me the potholders without knowing how well they match two of my three dishtowels.

Alan and Olga (mostly Olga) gave me this planter with four orchids. Olga says that they will flourish on one ice cube each every week. We shall see. I have a black thumb.

Olga met most of the family for the first time, and we were favorably impressed, especially in comparison to most of his previous girl friends and both his wives. She can carry on a conversation and held her own in our usual "Can you top this?" competition. Alan is obviously smitten.

John and Pam gave me the yoga pants and a swank yoga mat (not shown). No, I have never done yoga, but John was embarrassed to discover that I have been working out in jeans at my p.t. sessions. I was delighted to discover that I could still embarrass a 52-year-old child. That's a Personal Best for me.

I bought the shirt myself. I wanted something so long that if I put my hands up over my head, it would not ride up and expose my belly which, trust me, is not yet ready for prime time.

My grandson, Ryan, and his wife, Jill, have promised to take me out to dinner after he stops working on a conversion 60 hours a week. Coincedently, Olga is also working on a conversion because that's what you do in business in the U.S. I myself worked on a number of conversions before I retired, none of which went smoothly.

All in all, a very satisfactory birthday.

It's not easy being a cat.
