June 2014 Results and July Goal

Jul 20, 2014 22:04

Here it is, the 20th of July, and I'm just posting my July goal. What's with that? you ask. Well, July's goal is to survive Remedial Algebra with my mind intact; the verdict is not in yet. The class started July 7th and ends on August 15th, and it's all the goal I can manage for that month and a half.

So far I am not distinguishing myself. I got a 63 on my first quiz which encouraged Samantha: she got a 76. Since I'm doing this to prove to Samantha that she can pass a math course, doing better than her grandmother was a good thing. Let us hope I do better on the next quizzes and on the exam coming up on Wednesday and that she continues to out-perform me. Goodness knows I have put in the hours doing problems and then doing them over when I get them wrong, sometimes for very stupid reasons (copying the problem wrong, not noticing that a number is negative, etc.).

More studying to do tomorrow and Tuesday. All I want out of Wednesday's exam is a passing grade: 70 or above. I have my doubts. FanSee

Update: My grade for the second quiz just got posted to Blackboard. I got an 80; Sam got an 85. The trend is positive.

1. Purchase Billy bookcase and Fixa bureau from Ikea. Arrange delivery and assembly. (The bureau is for my bedroom. One of the drawers broke on my old bureau (also from Ikea) about six months ago. I've been putting off replacing it, but now is the time.)

SCORE! I'm very happy-with both the bookcase and the bureau. I'll try to get back and post pictures of both.

2. Sell or Freecycle all the items I found in the office redo that I haven't used in years. That includes all the CDs I uploaded to my laptop and am slowly backing up on the cloud. (They are also backed up to external storage.)

Incomplete.

I did sell more than half my CDs to a shop on South St. I got $.50/each for most of them, but I got a buck each for the ten most desirable ones (Nine Inch Nails, Leonard Cohen, the Beatles.)

I also Freecycled a DVD player I found. Nothing I posted to Craig's List sold - not even a nibble - so now I should either post everything to Freecycle or donate it to a Thrift Shop.

3. Determine which of my 'mix-tape' CDs to upload to my laptop. Dispose of the rest.

FAIL. Haven't even looked at them.

4. See if you can find something to attach the two CD towers to the wall before filling them. They are little tippy - don't want one of the cats pulling them down in the middle of the night...or any other time, really. Secure in place.

FAIL. One of the surprises of this redo has been how much bigger the new bookcase is than the old one. I got rid of some books in the redo - not really a lot - and still have quite a bit of space left. All my 'mix-tape' CDs will fit on the towers with room to spare. Right now, both are empty which has taken away from any urgency to get this goal accomplished.

5. Pick up pictures from South Street framer and Taws. Hang them.

Picked up one picture from Taws and hung it in the redone bathroom (which I wrote about HERE).

Altogether, not as successful a decorative move as I had hoped. First of all, I planned to hang this picture in my living room on a large-ish blank wall. When I got it home, I realized it was much too small for the space, so I hung it in the bathroom. It looks okay there, but...what you can't see in this picture...most of the time, glare from the ceiling light or from the hall makes it difficult to see. I should have gotten non-glare glass. So...back to Square #1; I'm rethinking.

I got my pictures from the South Street framer, but found three more I wanted framed for the same display. I'm waiting for them before undertaking what will be a fairly big project and one where I may need help.

Make it through to August 15th without losing my mind.
