25 - a song that you love at Christmas
My favorite Christmas song is probably “In the Bleak Midwinter” with words by Christina Rossetti and music by Holst. The words and music are so beautiful together.
The melody I love the best is “Brightest and Best of the Stars of the Morning”--there’s an artist called Lorie Line that does a great job with it. My favorite Christmas album is Christmas Spirituals by Odetta. My favorite solstice album is Songs from the Wood by Jethro Tull. There is one more -- I totally love Sting’s version of “The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came” -- there’s something so fiery and angelic about his performance. Castiel would approve! :)
26 - a song that makes you laugh
I love novelty songs and whimsical rock, so it’s hard to choose just one. Besides I covered this on #3!
27 - a song that you can play on an instrument
I can play guitar, flute, and piano. I guess I should list House of the Rising Sun, which is one of the earliest songs I learned to play and sing -- but also Going to California. I can play and sing both of those really well!
28 - a song that you wish you could play- doesn’t everybody dream of rocking out Stairway? I’m no different!
29 - a song that makes you feel guilty n/a
30 - a song from your childhood
My favorite album as a child was Peter Paul and Mary’s first album. It has an interesting jazzfolk rendition of “It’s raining, it’s pouring” that takes me instantly back to childhood.
There’s also “Me and You and a Dog named Boo” which was my theme song for going riding in the Camaro. :)
31 - your favorite song at this time last year
I went back to my itunes to see what I added at this time -- one of the things was Lhasa de Sela's album The Living Road which has this fantastic song on it:
Anywhere on this road. This is a live performance without the carnevalesque trumpet.
She passed away January 1, 2010 of breast cancer, far far too young, which broke my heart. Truly a musical genius cut short in her prime.
