the SHE-TICK vs. GERBIL MPREG

Nov 01, 2009 16:21

Yes, you read that right.  What I thought were my two gerbil brothers, Battu and Borishka, produced a litter of six tiny pink pups on Thursday, Oct. 29.   Battu has always been the brave, exploratory, caretaking big brother, and has often been known to hold Boru down and lick [her] all over, because that's what good big brothers DO, right?  But no ( Read more... )

Heh...I thought this was a fic post, and I was kinda thrilled. ;) However, wee pink gerbil babies are also awesome! They are the SamnDean of the gerbil world, obvs., and an evil witch came along and turned Sammy Boru female, and now they must raise their hideous progeny!

Or something.

SPOON!

It seems like California is pretty paranoid about pets. I think feral gerbils would be the most adorable pests!!

I must admit that we did think of Battu and Borishka as Sam and Dean, though, the Dean gerbil (Battu) was bigger, so that was a little confusing!

Battu was a Mongolian warrior, so that is how he got his name, since gerbils are meriones unguiculatus (tiny clawed warriors) and are from Mongolia. A friend from China came by and was astonished that we had named him such a well-known Mongolian name! Borishka is just named after our black rabbit Basha (who was christened Boris) since [she] is a tinier black pet. :) (The bun in the icon is Tina.)

That is the best subject line EVER.

Yay gerbil babies! I can't wait to see them. I don't think I've ever seen baby gerbils before!

the gerbil babies have their eyes open now are all fluffy and adorable. It is really a blessing to see such tiny miracles, even though it is inconvenient trying to figure out where they will go after they are weaned!!

My daughter just woke up and I told her about your gerbil babies.
Boo: Oh, I want one!
Me: Honey, she lives in another country.
Boo: She could send them by mail. Just put a little water container and food dish in too.
Me: But you already have gerbils.
Boo: Babies are cuter.

It does seem awfully unfair how we make friends across such annoying distances. Please tell her that I'm sorry, but I don't think Gerbils like to go by mail.

My boy woke up at 6 but thankfully he went back to bed. :)
