crucial movies for knowing Fannish Liss

That Crucial Movie meme...Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).
1. Desperado (1995). This is the movie my husband and I refer to as "our movie" that we have to rewatch every so often and that makes us smile and laugh and cuddle happily.  I do not even know, or care, what a "chick flick" is.  Desperado!!!  Over the top gunfights for the win!! \o/
Also, if you love Bucky? You owe it to yourself to see this movie.  I promise.

2.  Altered States (1980).   A little known movie starring William Hurt, this was my favorite movie for a long, long time.  It may seem to be a movie about LSD, but it is really about True Love and what it means as humans that we have "religious experiences."  (Hint: there's no easy answer.)

3. Beauty and the Beast (1991).  I'm not a huge Disney fan as a rule, and I don't really love musicals either, but this movie just seizes me by the neck and makes me sit down and watch it and sing along with every note. Beautifully composed, emotionally alive, this movie just MAKES me love it.  Just thinking about the moment when Belle thinks she's come back too late and I burst into tears.  :P  Plus, do I want that library? oh HELL YES.

4.  Only Lovers Left Alive (2013).  GO SEE THIS FILM.  It is currently playing at the AFI Silver here in suburban Maryland.  Again another story about TRUE LOVE, art, music, eternity, poetry, and everything awesome. And simply freaking beautiful to watch.   Argh, I can't wait for it to come out on DVD.  I feel like I should say more about this film... but it was just a full body experience as I clutched my husband by the arm and sank back in my theatre seat with a huge smile on my face for the. entire. film.  :D

5.  Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1990).  Sarah Connor was such a badass in this movie.  I saw it five times in the theatre. I loved Leia and Ripley before her, but Sarah Connor just blew my mind.  :)

6.  Of course the Princess Bride, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and This Is Spinal Tap, and the Life of Brian.

7.  Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan (1982).  When Spock died, I was CRUSHED.  I was a slash girl even then without understanding what it was.   Plus, I do love Ricardo Montalban. :)

8.  Everything Mel Brooks, but particularly  High Anxiety and Young Frankenstein.  Also Dracula: Dead and Loving it -- a movie which goes weak in the ending, but the first two thirds are perfect.  :)

9.  The Naked Gun (1988).  I do love a comedy.  Just saying the name "Frank Drebin" makes LOL so hard.  with bonus Ricardo Montalban!!

10.  These Marvel movies....  I am pretty psyched about Cap 2 I have to admit.  I've already seen it twice in the theatre.... but I have to hold myself in check to keep from going back.  BUCKY.  but then again, LOKI.   I don't think Bucky and Loki should be in a room together.  Loki would start hissing and spitting, and Bucky would start throwing cars.  :D

Bonus: Favorite Shakespeare movie:  Much Ado About Nothing (2012), directed by Joss Whedon, starring Amy Acker, Alexis Denisov, Clark Gregg, Nathan Fillion, et al --  that movie was pitch perfect from beginning to end.  Amy Acker knocked it out of the park.
Of course I also love Tennant and Tate's Much Ado, and Tennant's Hamlet... how funny is it that Branagh leaves me cold until he directs a movie about Thor.  :P
