I think the Boys, Dean especially, would certainly have grown into Barfly stereotypes had they not been given a mission. I see them like special ops, constantly staying sharp for the next hit, and those dudes get real old real fast and then never seem to age.
They are both so hurt right now. No one survives long enough to know all they've been through... so they have very little support system besides each other, and that's not going so well right now. ... poor guys! They have it even worse than most special ops guys, except for maybe the very long term deep cover sort. ):
My husband didn't like it either. I guess I just like to see the bright side. I was watching the 100 and I was just exclaiming about the stupid every other minute. Which is too bad... there's a lot of talent on the show, but the writing is just awful.
I think that it's cool to have a city be run by monsters. Chicago seems like an interesting choice.
Chicago already has a rep for being run by mob factions, by gang factions . . . monsters aren't that far off the target. ;) And yup, Chicago has a "Gold Coast" and a "North Shore." :) What we do not have, however, are ferries.
I wonder if these shifters have access to their marks' memories like the one in Skin did.
Doubtful, as the shifter "detective" who visited Ennis didn't even flinch when the kid mentioned that his Dad was on "graveyard shift" and would "be home soon." The original model knew that Ennis's dad was dead.
I was very meh about this episode, but I'm always happy to see outsider views of Sam and Dean. I just wish there'd been more of them.
The bit about not having ferries -- it seems like they could have checked that!! I mean when I'm writing a fic, I google the town it takes place in, you know? :P
I get the impression that the psychic bleedthrough is another thing the pureblood shifters would probably rather avoid.
Your thoughts on what it would be like to actually meet Sam and Dean Winchester are spot on--they would not be sweet and sexy like meeting Jared and Jensen at a con!!!
I love your positive review of this episode. :) It's not for me (though if they play up the police cadet angle with Ennis I'd be down with that--in answer to your question, I think it's only in the prelim summaries they've offered of the series that mentioned he was actually a cadet--he doesn't appear to have anything better to do in the pilot than wander around hunting monsters all day), but I think the enmity it's being met with is a little unfair.
And haha, indeed. Sometimes I see posts on Tumblr where people are like, sometimes when I'm scared of something I just imagine that Sam and Dean are there with me and will protect me. And I'm just like, man, if I met Sam and Dean, I would HIGH TAIL IT IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. Because either the thing they're hunting is going to get you killed, or they are. And neither party is going to remember you in a week. XP
Oh, is THAT who Lucien Laviscount is! Omg. XD With a name like that I thought people were talking about one of the many characters in that episode, and I was like 'huh, everyone's talking about this guy but I definitely do not remember which character he was!' That makes so much more sense.
I suspected he might be British, because his accent strayed at times, but I thought he did pretty well.

. . . but then again, Chicago doesn't have werewolves and shifters, either. As far as I know. :)
