What a sweet sweet fic. Rose is so strong, forgiving, and understanding in her acceptance of what the Doctor has been doing in her dreams and choices he has had to make during his life.
I love the conversation the Doctor and Rose have about how they feel about each other. There were so many wonderful passages full of heartfelt professions of love. This one stood out for me as you took the Turn of the Earth and turned it around: "It's not the planet that's spinning, Rose... it's me, hurtling through time and space, unmoored, cut off.... lost, no way home, no direction. But then, I take your hand, and everything changes. It's like I can feel who you are, who I am there beside you, and it all makes sense again... like I'm not just a bit of chaos randomly affecting infinitesimal little outcomes here and there, it's like when you're with me I mean something again."
Rose smiled at him and wiped away another tear. "You mean everything, Doctor. To me, you mean everything." Also, this beautiful statement from Rose about the dark

Yes, thanks to Em for being so brave to ask for a story! What a delight to have a special person in mind to write for!
I'm so glad you liked it. It's a bit long and I don't think many folks will read it, but I appreciate that you took the time. :)
It was fun trying to really work with all of s1. This was that story where I thought he was going to regenerate, keeping as close to canon as possible, but then I realized I couldn't do that to Em! And then too, I wanted to work more with the idea of him visiting her dreams, and he didn't actually do that in canon as far as we know! I decided to leave it up in the air whose voice that was coming from the future -- he's happy, and he knows how much Rose means to him -- so that's all we really needed to know. :D
I love long stories the best actually. I enjoy immersing myself in the author's world for awhile. It is like watching a forgotten episode. There is a special talent to composing a longer fic.
We know little of the Doctor's abilities when you think about it. The sky is pretty much the limit. I like how you have him 'following' Rose's life, almost like a guardian angel. He doesn't manipulate her, but keeps himself sane and her company with his presence in her dreams. It is as if she had a secret friend that turned out to be real. That is a complicated relationship to write. Fun though.
The future voice left to the reader is perfect. Let us decide. I think the Doctor would help his past selves. Why not?
I'm glad it's clear that he doesn't manipulate her. He was pretty much beside himself with rage at Jimmy Stone, and that was when he'd only just been "introduced" to her.... though, you know, at that point he was still beside himself with rage at pretty much EVERYTHING .... yet he took care to let her make her own mistakes. It was a fun story to work through... the sense that Rose perceived that someone was visiting her dreams, and she didn't know who, but she knew even from just his shadow that he was noble and good. YAY!
Liss I have no words. I knew you would do something wonderful with these prompts but again far more than I ever dreamed. I'm going to read this again when I get back home on Thursday and can really take my time to savour every word and image but for now thank you my friend with all my heart. This fic and all the beautiful messages I've received from people have totally topped off a perfect 40th birthday. Hugs you! You are fantastic.
I am so glad you enjoyed it! Of course like any story it is a labor of love to create, but it was good to know that it was for you, so I tried to make it come out in a way you'd like. :)
