AFFC Question!

Okay, so I'm currently reading AFFC and I'm intrigued by Gerold "Darkstar" Dayne. I find him potentially very interesting in general but I'm specifically curious about one line which I'm starting to think I imagined, because I can't find any discussion on it whatsoever, not even on threads solely dedicated to him (or to hating him - I didn't realise he was so unpopular!).

When Garin tells Arianne he doesn't like Dayne, we get this: "A pity," Drey said. "I believe he's half in love with you."

Is everyone reading this as totally flippant, like 'well he doesn't like you either' and not an actual indication of Dayne's feelings? Maybe it says something about me, but my immediate reaction was to start rooting for Darkstar's tragic unrequited love. If there'd been an adverb thrown in there, like 'Drey said wrily/sarcastically' or maybe with a roll of his eyes or something, I would've taken it as him being snarky, but he just says it, forgive the pun, straight, and we don't know enough about Dayne to know if it's true or not. Plus most of the references to "alternative" sexualities in the series are subtle enough, implied through innuendo or throwaway comments, so it wouldn't be out of place if this was meant to be an indicator.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I'm just surprised I couldn't find any mention of this anywhere on the internet, especially since there's quite a lot of discussion about the LGBT presence in the books. Surely I can't be the only person who took it seriously! Does anyone have any 'feelings' about this, ie. am I delusional??

Either way, I hope to see more of him in the future!
