Because it's going to be a while before we get A Dance With Dragons...

Does anyone know any books that might hit the spot for ASoIaF-deprived fans? I don't read much sprawling fantasy, and I tend to go for YA novels, but here are some ideas.

I'll recommend:

Philippa Gregory for her engaging historical pov characters with plenty of political maneuvering and intrigue. I just finished The Boleyn Inheritance and was amazed. I wonder if the Duke of Norfolk was in any way inspirational for the character of Petyr Baelish. And Jane Boleyn could teach Lysa Arryn a thing or two about Delusional Crazy.

Thomas Costain for amazingly readable and entertaining books about the Plantagenets that are real history too. He has some historical fiction but they're kinda hard to get your paws on. Or they were last time I looked.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Okay so it's girl-oriented, and very dream sequencey but the plot is engaging, there are Girls With Destinies, corsets, prophecies, and someone named Circe. Plus it's an amazing style, and just fun. And it's probably going to be a movie soon, so read it before they cast Hilary Duff and kill it dead.

Robin McKinley because she wrote Damar. If you like Brienne, Dorne, and wizards you'll like Damar (The Blue Sword, The Hero and the Crown). It's YA, it's amazing, and it sticks in your imagination. Everything of hers has that effect. And I secretly think somehow in the space-time continuum of the multiverse, Oberyn and Corlath share a gene or two.

Eleanor of Aquitaine by Marian Meade because it's about Eleanor of Aquitaine, the REAL Queen of Thorns. Seriously, Olenna has nothing on her. She'd have wiped the floor with Cersei. But she was more like Sansa when she was young. Which could make for some interesting ideas. Though I really thought of her when Margaery Tyrell first entered. Which makes me think Margaery might be a lot more dangerous than she appears.
