Honorable Mention: Dark

So, in our continuing mission to explore new worlds and new civilizations map out the murky territory of fic genres, today we embark on an exploration of "dark" fic, as suggested by lealila.   If you want to refresh yourself on what the "Honorable Mention" project is all about,  this entry can bring you up to speed.  You are also encouraged to submit genre suggestions there yourself!

These are the "rules":

1) Choose a fic (or more than one, if you feel inspired!) that you feel does the "dark" thing (however you define it) particularly well.
2) Post your own entry to this comm, with the title "Honorable Mention: Dark."
3) In that entry, include the following three things:

•  The name of the fic.
•  A link to the fic.
• At least a brief explanation of why you think this fic is particularly relevant as an example of dark fic. (Note: it does not necessarily have to be one of your personal favorite fics, as long as you think it is exemplary of the "dark" category.)
  
  I feel like this might be a good time to remind everybody that, since this is a fic-meta community rather than a fic-reccing community, it is important (okay, that's a lie, it's not important, but let's try it anyway) to remember that the purpose of the post is NOT to explain why you like the fic.  You are welcome to tell us that, of course, but the main idea here is to figure out why specific fics are particularly good representatives of their respective genres.  In other words, the question at issue is not why is it a good fic? but why is it a good example of this type of fic?  

And one more note: at least one of you has had trouble posting your entries.  I'm not sure why this is going on - the comm settings should allow posting access to all members - but if you run into a problem while trying to post, don't hesitate to send me a pm.  We don't want to leave anybody out!  By the same token, if you are a non-member following this discussion and you have something to contribute, please remember that you are welcome to join!  We're a very friendly group around here. :)
