this has been bugging me for awhile
5:08 AM 12/14/07 · Going to Fanime last year, even for the one day, has had this particular thing bumping around inside my noggin fairly often and I'm no closer to an answer than I was at the time. My usual convention, based on I hardly goto any others anymore, is BayCon but over the last couple years they've been moving towards a more decided no touching policy. I missed last years event but multiple friends called and informed me of some color based tag additive to badges that involved what kind of physical contact that person was open for.
Being more than a little of a hug slut...this annoying to hear. One of the first events I went to with them they were passing around little cards that said "convention rules" on them and #1 was hug everyone. To me that was bliss. Then again, same convention, I am also probably the only person that's ever been thrown out of an event due to excessive hugging.
Promised myself I wasn't going to rant...
Went to Fanime with
Anna, fellow hug slut, to meet up with
Gryphon who was working it. We were barely in the place a minute before we were blown away by costuming, not just amazing but it seems the restrictrictions we're used to at BC on amount of acceptable skin do not apply there, and the number of people walking around with signs that read "Hug Me" or "Glomp Me" and the strangely questionable "Sex me".
It's this last one I don't get.
We waded through a lot of these trying to find
Gryphon,
Anna and I getting hugged and hugging a few dozen people along the way (slowed the searching somewhat but we weren't complaining) and we worked out what was what. "Hug me" is simply that, nothing major, and very fun. "Glomp me" which I'd only ever heard online before this, though it turns out I've unknowingly experienced this, involves a sort of tackle hug, usually with a running leap involved, that's really fun if it works out right. Given the leaping aspect, if you're not careful (happened too many times) the glomper may catch the glompee under the chin causing their teeth to clack together uncomfortably.
I've apparently been glomped a few times, from a few people at BaGG to
Tina who's nearly bowled me over a few times with her patented panda pounces.
After finding
Gryphon, who was hankering for some food something fierce, they're not as good at keeping up on their volunteers breaks and feeding them as BayCon is, we headed out. On the way there we spotted a lil' cat girl, about 13 at the absolute most, wearing a big old sign that said "Sex me". I smiled at that and said as much to those I was with that I'd found my favorite sign yet. Following my gaze,
Gryphon got on my case about her age and I pointed out I liked the sign not who was wearing it.
Despite the rumors of my supposed deviancy...I am nowhere near as deviant as people like to think.
Throughout the rest of the convention I ran into a bunch of others wearing the "Sex me" sign but they were all guys and I wasn't comfortable asking. The range of the signs was wide and while they all circulated around these three main themes...some were quite elaborate, I found asking what they meant often involved a physical answer rather than a verbal one. So, you'll understand my not asking on this one specifically without finding a lady wearing one that I'd not get arrested for if it were to be taken literally.
So, this being what's been bugging me endlessly, what exactly do the "Sex me" sign entail? I can't literally be what it says...can it?
Also, still trying to work out where I can find a place that makes custom shirts. I promised
Anna I'd get her a long sleeved black dealio with the word GLOMP all over it multiple times at various angles.
