Okay, so I'm a bit late to the party. What else is new? Somehow I always forget how much falls by the wayside when I'm eyeball-deep in noveling.
1. Your genre(s)?
Fantasy of various stripes: adventure (Doppelganger), urban-historical (Midnight Never Come), YA (the aforementioned novel in progress); in short fiction I've also done straight-up modern urban fantasy and things verging on horror.
2. How many books have you completed?
Eight. I write a lot faster than editors read, back when I was languishing in slush piles.
3. How many books are you working on now?
Only one is truly in-progress right now, as in I'm currently laying down words every day. I can't work on more than one at a time, in that sense. I have another I'm researching (the Victorian sequel to Midnight Never Come), and several that are in various states of seedling/sapling in my hard drive, but those aren't really being worked on at present.
4. Are you a linear or chunk writer?
Mostly linear, though I've been experimenting with letting myself write out of order again. (I used to do it all the time, but it didn't work very well for me. I'm seeing if that has changed.)
5. The POV you're most partial to?
I seem to do a lot of novels with two major pov characters, both in limited third, with maybe a couple of secondary povs filling in the corners. I do like first person a lot, though; my first novel was like that, and so is this YA.
6. The theme that keeps cropping up in your books?
Urk . . . man, I suck at these questions. I can think of a lot of motifs (see the previous meme of "how you can tell a book is written by me"), but themes? Can I cop out and say "choices" like some other people have?
7. How many days a week do you write?
When I'm actively noveling, seven. In between novels, it's more sporadic than that.
8. What time of day do you get your best writing done?
10PM to 2am. In fact, when I cut-and-pasted this from Melissa's post, I didn't even bother changing her response. I know a kindred soul when I see one.
9. Who are your inspirations?
Diana Wynne Jones, Dorothy Dunnett, Wendy and Richard Pini (comic books) . . . I'll leave it at those three.
10. Who are your favorite authors to read? (different from mentors)
Way too many to list here.
