Melissa requested I cross post this and for mdf...Rob Thurman/Nightlife, Moonshine, Madhouse
I came, I saw, I signed, and I witnessed geek rappers. I fear I will never be the same. I also picked up some type of Bubonic Plague deriviation...not unexpected when roaming around with 110,000 of your best pals. I was in the audience of Attack of the Show (I was the one screaming 'shut up already and show The 300!') I learned they are re-releasing five...yes, FIVE...versions of Bladerunner on DVD. Now, don't get me wrong. Bladerunner is a classic, but FIVE? There were amazing costumes (some of these people had to be hired actors, I swear) and there were costumes and people who should never have combined into one horrific whole. I also discovered that anything in the world can be made out of Legos. Anything. PS Pushing Daisies...looks goofy when it adverts on TV--frigging hilarious. As if someone took American humor, British humor, Lemony Snicket, put them in a blender, pureed, and then blew the entire thing up with dynamite. Weirdest, funniest thing I've seen in forever. Stick out the first ten minutes--very much worth it. Best line: Bitch, I was in proximity.
I met my editor Anne face to face for the first time--she was just as I'd pictured her. There was also Tina from Penguin Putnam who could hawk a book like no one's business. Born salesperson...could've sold edible underwear to a nun.
The book signing went great. It lasted an hour and I rarely had a lull to talk to the Penguin Putnam people at the booth. The Mysterious Galaxy bookstore people were wonderful. I had two fans who froze, clung, and squealed when I gave them a spoiler from Madhouse. It was very Beatle-esque. I felt like a rockstar, bay-be. I also had two fans who made it from an unofficial fan club I have at a California high school. Gotta love the T-shirts. I promised I'd post their pics...so here they are.
