One immediate way to keep me from reading an author's fanfiction:
-The author's penname references Twilight. See LJ tag.
One immediate way to get me to discontinue reading a fanfic:
-Semicolon rape. See LJ tag
There is no good excuse for either. For the first, how can I take your writing seriously if you idolize that claptrap so much, you utilize it for your penname? (And yes. I can back up my distaste because I did read the books. The first two, in fact). And as for the second, I wish I could bring out the rule my Freshman comp professor gave us: You may not use semicolons without first proving that you know how to use them correctly.
Poor semicolon. So abused :(
