Jamie already had to hear me bitch about this:
For my Russian Lit course, I was struggling to find something interesting to write about that DIDN'T mean reading MORE outside literature. So I decided, "Hey, I'll tie in artistic style to literature. I'll illustrate a scene from four things we've read this semester, write why I illustrated in that style, and dissect my paintings and what they give to the book/scene/etc."
I am such a fuckwit. Because all the literature was written/takes place during the 1920s-30s Soviet Russia. Which means I have to keep art censorship in mind when I'm illustrating. Which means, if it was a book that actually got published in the USSR during that time period, the art piece has to correspond with state-sanctioned artistic styles. And that, if the book is critiquing the state, the illustration has to also be rebellious towards state-sanctioned art.
Blah. A lot of fun, but a lot of work. I spent a few hours at the library today and wanted to bang my head against a wall. Thanks to Wikipedia, I know what styles I need to use, but I need to find the non-Wikipedia information to use in my paper. To which, "FUCK YOU, PUBLIC LIBRARY, FOR HAVING SHITTY SELECTION!" Looks like I'm stuck trying to navigate USF's million floors of Stuff. And honestly, VERY disappointed with the article database on this subject.
ALSO: Ordered Graduation announcements today. $80 for 30. FML.
