Happy Wednesday! And Yay for the Fangrrl Tour! I've been involved in fanfiction for just over six years now and six glorious years they've been. I write under this name and bleodswean and here's a shout out for www.digital-quill.org! As with all things, writing and reading fanfic is phase-al. My current "phase" is slash. I prefer supremely well done one-shots and short pieces over novel-length fics and have all manner of pretentious reasons why. I think slowburn can be achieved in the short form, there just aren't enough fanfic writers doing it. *cries*

There is a truism in this regarding Nikolai’s “fantasies” that is so astonishingly real it leaves the reader reeling.

Why I fangirl this: To me, for me, THIS is what fanfiction should be - at its best. There's not total payoff here, but the images created, the small play that gets acted out inside the mind's eye, makes it all so worthwhile. This sort of Imaginative fic can, in many ways, spark an "answering" fic and the baton is passed. Tantalizing.

Why I fangirl this: Sentimentality. It was the first HP fic I ever read. It knocked me sideways. The entire Tea series is TEHSMEX and very hot, but not everyone’s cuppa. This small bit, however, is erotic and tantalizing and at the time was very surprising.

Why I fangirl this: Who doesn’t? In the early, heady days of the ‘Verse, this sort of clever fic was what it was all about. Sweet and endearing and it holds up.
Supernatural
I resisted Wincest for so long - on principle, on squick factor, on wanting Dean all to myself, but after S4, watching Padalecki grow into an insanely delicious helping of manflesh and the character of Sam grow right along with him, I got ravenously hungry for Sam with...anyone. I cannot tell you how knocked out I was when I discovered that Wincest can be full of pathos and beauty. The deep and aching love that is portrayed between the characters on the show CAN be translated into a deep and aching relationship between them that just makes sense. Through stageira's recs in this comm., I found a writer who exceeds all expectations. She is outrageously gifted and her fics will leave you tortured. In a good way. She's got 33 - yep 33!!! - on her site and I envy those of you the experience who haven't discovered her yet. Not sure how I pulled these three out of such an impressive oeuvre, but I love them extra-special.

Why I fangirl this:One of my pet peeves with AU and pron is the “slot-in factor” meaning that if only the names are changed the fic could be...oh, HP, ST, Supernatural, Dr. Who, etc.. This fic veers into that territory; however, it’s so fantastically penned, such high quality, that it’s worth the read. When you need men swinging their fists, you just need it, right?

The mess hall's a rather unremarkable backdrop but it sets the stage for the start of something grander. It takes an intimate linguistics lesson and a disastrous landing party mission that results in the two being stuck in a biotent with only one sleeping bag before they realise the obvious.
Why I fangirl this: The biggest mistake currently being made in the Reboot Verse is the logical one of younger writers (who didn’t grow up with a fierce crush on Nimoy’s Spock) writing the character with the voice of Data. Spock is NOT a robot, he’s reserved and dangerously intelligent. I seriously *heart* fic in which Spock is fantastically well written, regardless of pairing.

There are some astonishing hot slash fics in this community and they are so very, very worth the read. There is currently a weekly-installed slow burn being co-written, there have been giftfics and drabbles, but mostly there are in-chara fics that take you where the books won't and they will leave you gasping.
